Review Part 1: Hot Toys DX-05 Indiana Jones....

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

As mentioned earlier (more like during last year's post on the Mark V!), The Rebel Page's own geek-reviewer the_ridz got himself this excellent 1/6th Hot Toys Raiders of The Lost Ark: Indiana Jones action-figure about the same time he snagged his Mark V figure. I was there during the unveiling process and managed to snap some photos while he succumbed to his inner geek and hummed the Indy theme song repeatedly throughout the whole session! Let's take a look shall we?

The packaging is pretty neat. Hot Toys is well-known for giving elaborate packaging and this time around it's no different too! It has a very 'sandy' feel to it, especially on the 'Indiana Jones' wordings and the whole box cover does feel like the surface of a 'wooden crate'....talk about realism!

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

Immediately after lifting the cover flap open, you'd be able to see a great 'silhouette-y' image of the main man himself working his way with his whip! And since that this particular Indiana Jones figure is faithful to how he appeared in the ROTLA movie, a back-story is given here for the benefit of those who'd never seen the movie before in their life!

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

*SPOILER ALERT*
......are there actually people who's never seen the ROTLA flick yet? I find that hard to believe.....

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

Here's a nice inclusion into the figure set. It's a map that chronicles Indy's journey in recovering the Ark of the Covenant. I wonder if there're any collectors out there that actually had the idea to frame this vintage-looking map up.....would be cool to have this on the wall of your geek room!

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

Here's a closer look at the map...

Now, on to the figure itself. This is how it'll look the moment you take the first layer (the one with the map) out. I've heard of some collectors who'd commented that Harrison Ford looks more like Willem Dafoe from a certain angle...hahah. Perhaps it's the lighting though, because once he's out of his 'cell', he's Ford through and through!

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

Lift up the cardboard layer and ....what a sight to behold! Indy with all his accessories for your viewing pleasure! Accessories include extra hands, extra head (the one he has on right now is specially suited to wear his fedora hat), his fedora hat (duh!), a couple of pistol, his iconic whip, his journal (not THE journal from the 'Crusade movie though...this is the ROTLA ver. remember?), a pistol holster, his satchel bag, the bag of sand Indy used as counter-weight and of course the fertility idol (wakana matuso!!!).

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

I think the shadowy effect on the jawline made his look a tad bit like Dafoe....but not too much. Blink and you'll miss it.

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

Closer look at the headsculpt....annnndd he's Harrison Ford all the way!  =)

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

Right, when you lift up the first layer of foam that stores Indy and his accessories, you'd get to see the second layer that stores his 'arabic' get-up from the 'map room' scene where Indy placed the Staff of Ra (which is also included here) down on the room floor to find the location of the Ark of The Covenant. The pedestal on which Indy swiped the fertility idol is also included here albeit split into two.

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

Here he is...finally out from his foamy cell and his leather jacket......everybody now, "Ta...da...dam..da....da...da...da..."

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

The figure looks good even from the back. A very proportioned Hot Toys 1/6th figure!

Here's what's written on the base plate.

Epic shot moment.....

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

Remember that two-piece pedestal? Well, here it is fully assembled.....equipped with the fertility idol on top of it. Oh, did I tell you about the backdrop yet? The collapsible cardboard backdrop has two sides to it. You can either opt to display the 'temple' background (which is evidently used throughout this photoshoot) and the other side of it shows the Map Room environment (coming up soon during Part 2 of this figure review!)

A closer look on the fertility idol. A very detailed piece of accessory...

Indiana Jones (DX05 Hot Toys)

Aha....and here we are with Indy during his first few moments before attempting to grab the idol from the pedestal. Easy there Indy!!!

In my personal opinion (you may beg to differ though!), that this figure's headsculpt look best like Harrison Ford when viewed from the sides! Being a "DX" figure means that this figure came with the PERS (eyeball movement capability) feature and that I believe was the cause of the whole 'hoo-haa' by certain quarters of fanboys. They complained that Indy's eyes were too 'sunken' here....but I may have a solution here....just leave them PERS alone! I mean throughout my photo shoot, I thought to myself, this headsculpt looks great when the eyeballs are aligned to look straight ahead....but that's just me, you may have different opinions when it comes to this me thinks!

Got it!

Well, I hope you've enjoyed the pics above. I'll see you soon in Part 2 of the figure review soon....I can't wait to see Indy in his Map Room garb holding his Staff of Ra!
