The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 2 recap...

the-walking-dead-season-4 Episode 2-rick-carl

Had this episode downloaded last Monday but I only took the time to watch this with my significant other late last night. Honestly, I refrained myself from reading the countless reviews on the internet a day after this was aired in the States. I wanted to watch this myself and provide a good honest quick review on the episode. I know there are countless good reviews out there on these TWD episodes but here at The Rebel Page, I'd sum it all up in perhaps a few short paragraphs. I don't mean to splurge the juicy details or spoilers if you must but if you haven't watched this episode (here in Malaysia we'd only get the episodes aired on our Fox channel a week later than the States) then you might wanna skip this post altogether.

Jakks Pacific 31" Star Wars figures FOUND....

Jakks Pacific 31" Star Wars figures

Yup, found 'em in TRU a couple of days ago. They're supposedly under USD30, but I never bothered what price my local TRUs are slapping them with. They're freakin' huge....that I can tell ya. I've even placed that 3.75" TBS Scout Trooper at the feet of the 501st Clone Trooper for size comparison purposes. The thing is, they're basically blown up versions of the 5-POA Saga Legends figures. I would totally buy this...IF I was a restaurateur needing an ornamental centerpiece for my Star Wars-themed premises' display section OR a specialty toy/comic store owner needing a vintage looking display piece for my display window.

Feeble Oct haul....

Oct haul

My long wait is over....finally received my Series 4 'Walking Dead figures a couple of days ago thru the mail. Had those bought over by a buddy of mine from his local Walgreens. As you can see, I only received the 'humans' this time around. I'm getting him to send me the two (2) zombies in Series 4 in a later shipment. These had just heightened my anticipation for Episode 2 of Season 4 tomorrow! On the other hand, that Cylon Raider was a gift from another collector buddy of mine. That wraps up this week's (or Oct?) acquisitions.

Star Wars 6" The Black Series 'Darth Skywalker' custom...

Custom Jedi Luke 6"

Alright, next up from the 6" Star Wars Black Series line is a simple custom figure I've concocted from the use of Luke Skywalker's head and Darth Maul's body. I must say, I'm pretty impressed with this simple change of head sculpt. 'Darth Skywalker' is a favourite among my flickr followers and I thought of reproducing the pictures here at The Rebel Page to show you that you don't need to be a master painter or sculpter to come out with this excellent yet simple custom figure. You just need to know how to pop off/on the head of an action figure properly (and try not to mess with that fragile neck-peg!). Let's see how Darth Skywalker turns out to be!

Star Wars 6" The Black Series #3 Sandtrooper

Sandtrooper

Finally I've come to the end of my review of Wave 1 of the 6" Star Wars The Black Series line from Hasbro. There ain't a more fitting way of ending the series of figures than to review the most 'scalped' figure among the four, the elusive Sandtrooper! As I've mentioned before, I can't seem to find the Sandtrooper out in the open anywhere here at retail. I'm just glad that I pre-ordered these directly from my regular toy pusher and was able to got these 6" TBS figures for almost 12% off the prices my TRUs are asking for them.

Star Wars 6" The Black Series #2 Darth Maul...

Darth Maul

Here's figure #2 from Star Wars 6" The Black Series ("TBS") line. I've covered figures #1 and #3 prior to this. After the Sandtrooper, Darth Maul is the most 'scalped' figure off the TBS Series 1 here at my local TRUs. I've only seen him once or twice in the wild before he eventually evaporated into a myth-like status. Like I said before, I'm not even gonna bother hunting the 6" TBS figures in the wild. I'm just too annoyed by the fact that I'm gonna have to battle it out with those darn scalpers to these. I already have the 6" TBS figures on 'standing order' with my toy pusher so I'm covered there. Anyway, let's today see how the Zabrak Sith lord fare against the rest of his OTC series mate!

The Walking Dead Season 4 begins!

The Walking Dead Season 4

Woohoo! The wait's finally over. Episode 1 of Season 4 of AMC's TWD TV series aired on Fox in the States last night much to the delight of many impatient fans. Technically, we Malaysians would only get to see it over on our Fox channel next week, about 1-week after the US premier. But there's always the good 'ol internet now ain't it? My better half immediately downloaded this mere hours after it was shown in the States and imagine the look on yours truly's anticipating face when he came back from work yesterday! Episode 1 didn't disappoint. Some fans may view this episode as being a bit slow but I felt it was necessary as it builds up the pace for the rest of Season 4. Glad to see familiar faces returning for the new season and the new faces were a welcome sight too. I'm also glad to see that even after 6 or 7 months (*cough*...spoiler alert...*cough*) Michonne is still searching for the Guv'. I'm anxious to see how the gang handles the 'internal threat' from within the prison walls next week as we were left with a cliffhanger at the end of Episode 1.

Anyway, next week couldn't come fast enough!

LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.....

LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Took a stroll at a nearby flea market with my son and better half last weekend. Didn't plan to get anything as I was there to meet a friend on some business matter (so to speak). But we couldn't resist from taking a peek at one of the stalls selling toys and other bootleg pop culture related stuff. My son immediately spotted these among the sea of other LEGO figurines. Well, actually they go by the sets and there were a good 10 sets or so of these four 'Turtle brothers on sale (should've grabbed Splinter too! Darn!). They were quite a steal at USD6 (equivalent) per set. That's quite reasonable as one Minifig could already cost you anywhere between USD3.5 - USD4....so four (4) LEGO figurines at about USD1.5 each is a no-brainer deal! We've always wanted to get these for our son but my wife and I were constantly taken aback by the asking price for one of them TMNT LEGO set. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure whether these aren't bootleg/official LEGO figurines or otherwise. They look good and they're durable enough in our hands....so I didn't give much thought on those issues anyway.

Star Wars 6" The Black Series #4 R2-D2...

R2-D2

Yea...yea...before I go any further, I wish to say that I do realize that Artoo here is labeled as #4 in the 6" The Black Series ("TBS") lineup. Well, I didn't say that I was gonna review them in sequence now did I?  I just felt that R2-D2 is the only logical follow up to the Luke figure I reviewed a couple of days ago. I think many collectors were indeed surprised that we got Artoo so early on in the series but  for me it was kinda expected really. Now it makes me even more determined to see the proto 6" C3-P0 figure from Hasbro! With just mere weeks till Series 2 figures eventually end up in my pile of loot, I felt that there is a pressing need to finish off my take on the Series 1 offerings. So let's take a look at figure #4....

The Official James Bond car collection #1: BMW Z8 - The World Is Not Enough...

The Official James Bond car collection  #1 BMW Z8 The World is Not Enough
I stumbled upon this random piece of Eaglemoss offering while making my rounds at one of the bookstore in town. I've always knew that apart from the lead figurines (I've bought some of the Eaglemoss DC Superheroes figurines myself) Eaglemoss Ltd. produced iconic vehicles for their magazines/collectible items line. I've wanted to collect the Batman vehicle series but that one costs a bomb so when I saw the #1 issue of the Official James Bond car collection selling for a mere RM9.90 (that's just well over USD3 folks!) I thought it was a no-brainer purchase. This was of course an introductory offer and subsequent issues (plus vehicles) would cost ya RM29.90 (or approx USD 9) but I was curious to see how the vehicles turn out to be. Only time will tell if I do decide to take the plunge and collect the rest of the vehicles in the series. In the meantime, let's check out the first offering from the line, the BMW Z8 from the Pearce Brosnan Bond flick, 'The World Is Not Enough' ("TWINE").

Star Wars 6" The Black Series #1 Luke Skywalker...

Pilot Luke Skywalker

As I wait for Series 2 of the 6" Star Wars The Black Series ("TBS") line, I felt that there is an urgent need to complete my review on the first four figures of Series 1. Usually I don't really give a hoot about the timing of my reviews, heck I still haven't done the reviews on some of the MOTU Classic figures from 2012 (and some as far as 2011.....guilty!!!)! But in this instance, I think I'd have to finish with my opinion on the four before the Series 2 figures arrive real soon. Let's start with figure #1, Tatooine farm boy-turned-Rebellion hero pilot....Luke Skywalker!

Thinkway's Wreck-It-Ralph action figures...

Ralph, Vanellope & Felix

Truthfully, I didn't even watched Wreck-It-Ralph when it first hit the big screen last year. But I've always been intrigued on how John C. Reilly was gonna pull this one off. I mean, I know the man from crazy comedy flicks like Talladega Night, Stepbrother, Walk Hard and the upcoming Marvel action feature film, Guardian of the Galaxy, but venturing into Disney's territory? This I gotta see. I really wanted to see this movie since they involved many of the classic video game characters of yesteryear in the flick eg. Streetfighters, Pac-Man, Tapper (among my favourite!) and the lot. Check out the full listing of video game characters that appeared/mentioned in the film here. Of course, Wreck-It-Ralph, the Felix Fix-It Jr game itself and numerous other games & characters were fictional but you just gotta love it how Disney introduced them to blend seamlessly with the rest of the 'real-world' arcade games already familiar to us. Wreck-It-Ralph now ranks among the best Disney animated film for me and my better half..no joke! Even our son got really hooked and we've actually lost count on the number of times he had spent watching the film since we got him the DVD. But trust me, this is one flick you just gotta see on blu-ray...it's that good of a visual treat! And you can imagine the look on the little man's face when we came across the action figures in the clearance bin at the TRU sale held recently near our place.

Some Sept haul....

Sept '13 feeble haul....

It's been a relatively quiet September for The Rebel but somehow he managed to slip in a few stuff into his vault even though he already has a sizeable 'yet-to-be' reviewed mountain of stuff to be photographed and reviewed. Ah well, life (as a collector) goes on. We'll get to the reviewing part sometime soon. Anyway here's a quick look into the stuff he traded part of his hard earned salary with (Ok, I really should stop talking in a 3rd person mode now):

1) The Official James Bond Car Collection #1 - Ok, my favourite Bond is still Roger Moore and my favourite Bond flick is (*surprisingly*) Skyfall, but I can't resist from getting this Brosnan vehicle for just USD3.30 now could ya?

2) DC Eaglemoss #72 Plastic Man - I think this is my first 'lead figurine' since I stopped sometime during #35. Hey, he's a core JLA member.

3) Star Wars Black Series Mara Jade - I think most of you have read of my triumph in finding her in the wild in one of my previous post. Woot!

4) Movie Masters Supes & Shackled Zod - A bargain from a flea market trader I know. He sold me these at a 60% discount off retail prices. Resistance was futile!

end Sept haul...

5) TRU was havin' a clearance sale the other day and my wife just had to get these Wreck-It-Ralph figures for our son. Pity there wasn't a Turbo action figure to go with them. 'Ralph is among the best Disney animated film for us three!

6) My wife found me the ML 'Thunderbolts' Punisher the other day. I restrained myself from getting the regular version but I was pretty intrigued indeed on Frank's foray into the Rulk's team so I caved in and this one went straight into my wish-list.

7) MOTU Classics Ski High with Jet Sled - This is the most used vehicle in the classic cartoon series. Nuff said.

How's your October like?!

My October

It's currently October. And there's only one thing on my mind right now. Been waiting like forever for Season 4. Nicked this from TWD's facebook page. Can't agree enough.
