Garage sale @ Kavin's 2nd-3rd June '12...

Earlier in the month, I had the chance to visit a garage sale organised by one of the 'toy-pusher' from my early collecting days. He's no longer active i.e. no longer having an actual brick & mortar store nor selling any collectibles nowadays. It was a 2-day sale and Kavin (yup, that's his name) announced on his FB page that he'd be selling off part of his personal collection as well as heaps of stock aka leftover collectibles from his 'active' days. I went there together with my wife, son and a collector buddy (aka "The Rebel Page" crew), early in the morning to avoid the expected massive crowd.

We were immediately greeted by scores of Star Wars collectibles upon our entry into his house compound. Interesting to note that all collectibles are up only till 2009, that was when he completely stopped collecting and if I can recall properly, that was about the time too when he effectively closed his store. In this picture here, you can see a mixture of Star Wars collectibles, ranging from the 3.75" figures, Micro Machines, POTF-era figures, Action-Fleet vehicles and such.

Over on the left side, there were a number of "Battle Packs" from the 1st Transformers movie, some McFarlane 'staction' figures as well as several Star Trek collectibles (OMG! Star Wars and Star Trek....they don't go well together do they?).

That guy over there has the honor of being the first geek to arrive at the garage sale! Man...and we thought WE were early at 8:50am!

One must be diligent enough to look down underneath the display tables to take note of the 'other collectibles' on sale. Here we can see the 1st ever wave of Marvel Legends aka post-Toy Biz figures. I didn't really fancy those early Hasbro 'cheap knockoffs'......Toy Biz still rule till this day!

How about Galoob's Micro Machines Star Wars? I was tempted to get that Dewback with Sandtroopers and the Jabba's Skiff set but the asking price kinda deterred me. Oh yea, did I mention that all prices are non- negotiable? To be fair to Kavin, most of these items were kept in good condition but to be honest, I think some of them could've been priced a tad lower to say the least.

Here's another pile of Star Wars goodness as we get closer to his house entrance. Note the various statuettes towards the left of the picture. I remember during the final years of Kavin's store time, he used to push statues and had a ball convincing us conventional action figure collectors that 'statues' or 'static' action figures (aka staction) were cool to collect to!

Well, uhm.....Gundams are not my cup of tea but it's interesting to note that he sold these too. Must've been from his leftover stock.....I don't think that he was THAT into Gundam.

Now here's a closer look at the 'other' collectibles on sale that day. A random mix of pop-culture goodies that include statues of Hellboy, Scarlett Witch, The Godfather, Ghost Rider, some random Marvel Eaglemoss figurines, a replica helmet of Magneto's etc. What a sight!

Tah-da!!! What did I tell ya? More treasures underneath the main display tables......basically more Star Wars figures for us to rummage through.

And right before we hit the entrance of his house, there were some other random collectibles....apart from that force FX Lightsaber, I was pretty thrilled to see that box of 12" vintage Kenner Star Wars figures. They're no match for today's Hot Toys standards by a longshot, but still.....the nostalgia of it! Before we went home on the 1st day of sale, we were told by Kavin that he was gonna un-earth many other rare collectibles on the 2nd day, and that was enough for us to plan a visit on the next day.

DAY 2

 Garage sale at Kavin's @ 3 June '12

We went slightly towards the afternoon on the 2nd day of sale, thinking that they crowd wasn't gonna build up like it did on the 1st day. This time, the 'Malaysian Star Wars Fan Club' banner greeted us, signalling that there were 'Imperial Recruitment' agents waiting inside to distribute their membership forms. Once inside, I resisted the call to enroll! LOL. Being a 'grey Jedi' myself, I'd like to remain neutral and not align myself with either the Republic or the Separatists.....hahahah!

There were changes to the display of the items of course. The Star Wars collectibles on the first table from the day before were now replaced by Toy Biz-era Marvel Legends figures (nice!), several G.I. Joe items, some McFarlane figures and a number of Lord of The Rings action figures (also by the legendary Toy Biz!).

Some Hellboy characters (both from the comic pages and the movies) were on sale. What saddened me was that I got to know from Kavin that he had sold a bunch of LOTR items in the morning. Man, I was so looking forward to filling the missing characters from my wife's 6" LOTR collection. *Bummer*.......

Upon entry, one will be immediately mesmerized by the endless display shelves in his living room! Let the photos do all the talking for ya!
