Marvel Universe: Scarlet Witch.....

Marvel Universe: Scarlet Witch

Here is one of my most anticipated Marvel Universe release this year. In Malaysia, we collectors have to really fight off them scalpers to get these figures into our collection especially when these figures are shortpacked in a particular wave. The way I see it, it's either you beat the scalpers to it OR be prepared to pay exorbitant prices on eVilbay thereafter. To make things worse, Scarlet Witch here was packed together with She-Hulk, another heavy hitter from the same wave! Whatever it is, I gotta thank my lovely wife for snagging this figure for me when she found the new wave at TRU a couple of weeks ago.....there's no freakin' way I was willing to pay them sky-high prices on eVilbay for it!

The packaging has a cool Mike Deodato Jr's art on it depicting ol' Wanda Maximoff (that's her real name to those uninitiated) ready to unleash her 'hex' on her opponents. Great art....makes you real sorry you gotta rip the figure out from the packaging....well, almost. I can't fathom the fact that Hasbro justified their cost saving measures by pulling out the bio card (remember those that came in the envelope?) and later the action figure stand.....and instead giving us 'collectible comic cover shots'. Those 'cover shots' are just basically useless mini cardboard prints that most collectors would throw away anyway.

We'd get to see the standard bio on the back of the card. I personally feel that Hasbro could've added more drama into the bio by mentioning how Wanda 'lost it' during the events of 'House of M'.....causing the massive decrease of mutants etc etc....Decimation bla bla bla....later returned to be married to Dr Doom bla bla bla...but that's just me. I guess Hasbro didn't want much info to be made known to casual fans....(or maybe it's just a ploy to get them to buy the TPBs eh?!!)

The figure has a very sharp and prominent facial feature. This is definitely wayyyyyyyyy better than the one we got through the Marvel Legends line all those years back. Some might argue with me...sayin' that it's not right to compare a 6" figure with a 3.75" figure. But think about it, if Hasbro can make Wanda look THIS good in a smaller scale, then doing a 6" version should be easy peasy for them to trounce that abysmal figure produced by Toybiz.

Marvel Universe: Scarlet Witch

I'm not saying that I'm ungrateful for THAT version Toybiz gave us. I mean, it was good for that particular point in time. But after seeing so many advancement in action-figure building in recent years, I think it's about time that we should receive a better proportioned and sculpt for Scarlet Witch....and this figure did just that! Now if only they can give us a 6" version through one of the future (Return of) Marvel Legends line!

Marvel Universe: Scarlet Witch

I think I only have one grouse over this figure. I dislike how her cape is actually longer than the figure itself. It does help us to pose her (the cape provides extra support) but it looks kinda weird.

Marvel Universe: Scarlet Witch

I gotta say, one of the best bit of this figure is how Hasbro sculpted her fingers in the 'hex' position. Really cool if you plan to pose this figure in a fighting stance. Having said that...she'd look cool standing with the rest of The Avengers too with those battle-ready fingers!

Here's Wanda with the 'Hex' effect accessory. Basically Hasbro gave us a 'blob' of plastic to justify the lack of the figure stand that we crave so much. Once you put this blob of plastic over Wanda's hands (right or left depending on your preference) it does look mighty impressive.

Here we have Pietro & Wanda Maximoff (Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch) posing for us.....I was quite enthralled (pardon the pun.....enthrall, magic, spell....get it???) that Wanda created a whole alternate universe after agreeing to Quicksilver's suggestion to do so......read the House of M TPB and you'll know what I mean. Thank you Hasbro for giving us Wanda....we can finally pose her beside her brother! Now I need a Magneto to go with them....and perhaps Hasbro can do a Polaris figure in the future for us to complete the line-up!

And here's for good measure, a group shot of Wanda with some of the West Coast Avengers line-up. I really dig that series and actually prefer it over the 'normal' Avengers comic run in the late 80s/early90s.

....and Wanda with the rest of the big 'ol Avengers family....well, some of 'em anyway....heheh.

THE REBEL'S VERDICT: A DEFINITE MUST HAVE for any Avengers fans! You'll be kicking yer selves in the nuts if you miss this one! Nuff said......
