With Episode 7 looming around the
corner (hey, it’s a mere 15-months before we’d all get the chance to crack out
our home-made Jedi robes once again for a Star Wars premier show!) I thought
it’s only right to snap some Star Wars-related action figure photography to
whet my insatiable appetite for a ‘back-to-basics’ SW movie.
It’s strongly
rumoured that Disney, being the current owner of Uncle George’s universe, might
re-classify the Prequel movies as ‘non-canon’, a fate similar to that of most
of the Expanded Universe novels. So what this simply means is that we might
have to forget what we’ve learn and accepted from Episodes 1 till 3. Not a bad
thing really, since Episode III was such a hunk of a mess and to be honest, it
looked more like cut-scenes from a video game rather than an actual movie.
Having said that, I still have
profound love for Episodes I and II, barring the very elaborate love scenes in
AOtC. Although I am also in the opinion that the Prequels could’ve been much
better had Uncle George went back to his Original Trilogy roots, I think the
three movies served their purpose in opening up fanboys’ minds to what went on
before the events of A New Hope. I personally love to have seen countless Jedi
going about in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and how the Master-Padawan Learner
dynamics took place during those times.
I’m not too crazy about them
clones though. One or two is ok (I totally dig Cody, Rex and Gree) but I think
Disney went on the overkill when they simply created too many ‘unique’ clones
through the Clone Wars animated series. On the collector front, I think most
have seen how there are countless 1/6 clones being produced by Sideshow
Collectibles. Such a shame really, when obvious fan-demanded ‘Troopers such as
the Scout Trooper* and the Imperial Navy Trooper/Commander have yet to be
materialised.
Here’s hoping for a great collecting
year ahead. Bring on SDCC!
*At the time of writing, yours truly still has no clue whatsoever that
the 1/6 Scout Trooper’s coming our way through the upcoming SDCC! Yay!
