Here's THE vehicle
that caught my attention when the first TFA trailer came out many many months
ago. I knew I just had to get this into my collection because it fits perfectly
into the feel of the OT films. Furthermore the color scheme reminds me a lot of
Luke's Landspeeder. I'm an absolute sucka for anything OT (or related) so you
just know where I'm heading here.
Sadly the
newer/latest Star Wars action figures are all 5-POAs and Rey here is no
different. In fact, somehow or rather Rey here was supposed to be a bit smaller
than the speeder to be screen accurate but I'm not gonna let that bug me. Until
the fully articulated 3.75" Black Series Rey comes out, I shall be content
with what I have.
Talking
about Rey, she comes with her head scarf and goggles because this is how one
should dress up before you get bugs and insects down your throat when you floor
the speed throttle down. Those who want the Daisy Ridley head sculpt would have
to buy the single-carded version instead.
In the
accessories department she comes with only her spear/stick thingy. What this
weapon/accessory really do is still a mystery till we watch the film 2 months from now. It slots nicely into the two pegs at the side of
the speeder, which is a nice touch.
I like
how Hasbro managed to capture the aesthetics of the speeder. To me the speeder
looks like a huge space gun in the veins of Bloodwulf's (Image comics) hover
bike/gun (who in turn, is a direct parody/copy of DC Comic's Lobo). I just wish
that we were given a 'real' net instead of a snap-in piece of plastic. In the
movie, the net is where 'scavenger Rey' puts the stuff that she finds and hope
to sell later at some flea market.
I'm not
too keen at all with the play feature of the toy. I bet that the speeder
doesn't even shoot missiles in the movie...*sheesh*. The missile launcher pops
up when you press a button located at the side of the speeder (in the middle of
the 'net' part to be exact). Oh how I wish Hasbro could've allocated that
budget for the play feature to make a removable cover that reveals engine parts
instead. That way we could have the option to display Rey while she fiddles
around repairing her speeder. Makes sense? But wait, this is a CHILD's toy
right (*sarcasm*)???
I'm
seriously thinking about applying some paint onto the speeder to make it look
more realistic but let's see. That's a story for another day.
