Spinmaster 5" The Batman

I still haven't grabbed the new McFarlane 7" The Batman figure as yet. For the past two weeks I've been seeing many collectors going into a buying frenzy and paying premium for the figure online because they can't wait for it to hit their local TRU and toy specialty stores. Well fret no more Malaysian collectors, Bats is hitting TRU hard and they seem to be flooding the toy shelves as we speak. Perhaps I'll be finally picking one up soon, who knows.

But today I'll be focusing on the more budget friendly version of The Batman action figure albeit a less articulated one but cool nonetheless. You see, many weeks ago my son was so hyped up over the movie so he decided to get the 5" Spinmaster The Batman figure to quench his thirst for a Bat-pat figure.

Which one is the Spinmaster 5" figure you ask?

This one to be exact.....

Not much information at the back of the card too since this is the budget-friendly version and not the McFarlane version....yada, yada, yada.

A quick visit to the Spinmaster website by yours truly revealed that the company is currently producing a smorgasbord of The Batman toys and merchandises. Some are targeted towards the younger segments and most are....well, even more child-oriented. I have to say that I'm still interested in some of their offerings, especially that Wayne manor/Batcave playset (am an absolute sucker for playsets in case you haven't heard...shucks!).

Right, without further ado the figure was ripped out of its packaging without much resistance and truth be told, Bat-pat here accompanied us into the cinema hall for the almost-premier show of The Batman.....

Na na na na na na na na....Bat-paaaat!

As you can see from the picture above, the figure is akin to the 12" Marvel 'shampoo bottle' figures since they offer very limited articulations and is primarily targeted towards kids rather than McFarlane-thirsty collectors. I immediately went to work on the figure after we came back from watching The Batman, with the blessing of the owner of the action figure of course.

And I think the result is pretty decent....

With some paint wash, we can clearly see the face sculpt which many will believe to be non-existent due to the no-paint on the face policy by Spinmaster.

I gave the his armour some light silver dings and rust for the cinematic effect. Tried to replicate the stitch effect for his cowl too but decided it was too tedious....heh.

My better half pointed out that his cowl and boots were too shiny so I gave them some weathering to make them matte....sort of.

Even gave him a set of proper eyes given that he came them all-white eyes when they didn't even looked like so in the movie.

I think he looks miles better now than how he looked out fresh out of his packaging. What do you think?
