Marvel Select Juggernaut....

Marvel Select Juggernaut

I was guilty of ignoring this piece of action-figure when it first came out in 2011. I initially dissed it off as being 'too out of scale with the MLs' and I remembered having some other qualms about it. So I totally decided against picking it up for my Marvel shelf, especially with the thought that I already have the Series 5 ML Juggs on display at home. It took me almost 2 years later to realise that I was in danger of missing out one of the best action figure made in 2011. I was lucky enough to find the Marvel Select Juggernaut still on sale through our local eBay for a decent price. Glad I picked it up....this is one HUGE monster for anyone's display shelf. Boy, I'm such a sucka for these bulky action figures!

The packaging has always been the same since Marvel Select first launched the line many many years ago. The huge blister card packaging works fine, it holds the figure....but ironically the sheer weight of Juggernaut is kinda too heavy for its packaging...almost threatening to just 'drop' off from the cardback! I would highly recommend those who plan to keep this baby MOC to store it flat on its back to avoid it from ripping itself open!

As usual, there's the cool art at the side of the packaging. Ol' Juggs depicted in his mean mode! Love those red eyes!

There's also the usual bio at the back of the card. You can also see an image of the the 'variant' Juggernaut aka the unmasked version.

Once you rip Juggs open from his packaging, you'll instantly know why you need this sucka for your collection. Forget that you ever had that ML Juggernaut for a second (though that one has one sweet headsculpt of Cain Marko!) and marvel (no pun intended!) at this excellent Marvel Select offering. It's one massive bulk of plastic (almost 1.5kg!), has a nice overall sculpt, better proportioned than the ML Series 5 version, stands tall at 9"; and not to forget that the figure has excellent paint apps!

The thing is that this action figure was sculpted by the same guys who gave us the Bowen Statues series, so you're getting a 'statue' quality sculpting here people! Honestly, I felt that they could've included an extra unmasked head instead of making collectors buy the same figure TWICE just to get the Cain Marko head.

If you ask me, articulation isn't exactly Marvel Select's strong point. In fact, their action figures were heavily criticised during their early days for being merely statues with very limited articulations. Not to forget that these MS figures are at a 7" scale, a tad bigger than your normal Marvel Legends. But I guess it works for their 'larger' figures. Characters like Hulk, The Thing, Abomination and Juggs here seems to have no problem at all blending in with the 6" scale ML figures...simply because they are already deemed big anyway compared to them normal guys. MS seemed to have improved on the articulations department lately and Juggs here will attest to that. He has a fair amount of articulations on him. My only grouse is that he should've come with a waist articulation to give him more posing capability.

Personally, I think these Marvel Select figures are worth your money. For an average price of USD20, they are certainly at par with most of the better action figures out there in the market now. I love the fact that these 'plus-size' MS figures cost lesser than one MOTU Classics figure (a regular figure will cost ya >USD25 these days and that's before you factor in the shipping cost!).....and you're getting a whole lot more plastic than them Eternian action figures!

For the record, this is only my SECOND Marvel Select figure ever but I'm liking what I've bought thus far. I got myself the Avengers Movie (Ruffalo) Hulk last year and that one was phenomenal too, being the best figure under the 5"-11" category (just read Michael Crawford's 2012 Poppies Award!).

If you haven't got yourself the ML Series 5 Juggernaut, then this MS Juggs is a no-brainer purchase for you. I mean, you can't possibly have a Marvel action-figure collection without a Juggernaut standing amongst your evil mutants faction now, can ya? Even if you already have that figure, this one's a must for your collection......it's a great update of a classic X-Men villain that you know you just gotta have on your shelf!
