"V" 2009 TV Series....

For those who remembered the original 1983 mini-series well, I'm pretty sure that by now you're in the know that the 're-imagined' series has just premiered on ABC Network on Nov 3 in the States. The pilot episode is one of four to be shown throughout the month of November and the series will resume in March 2010 after the 2010 Winter Olympics to complete the 13 episode series.

I remembered the struggles of Mike Donovan and gang very well from the original mini series so when I first heard that the whole 'V' franchise was going to be 're-imagined'.....I had my doubts straight away. I mean, why fix something that isn't broken? As a die-hard 'V' fan  (yup, I've even read the 'authorised' follow-up novel by Kenneth Johnson and had watched the DVDs many many times!***geek alert!***), I thought that it would have been better if they had picked up where the original TV series had left off. *SPOILER ALERT*.....you know, the part where Diana planted a bomb on the Leader's spacecraft as The Starchild decided to follow him back to his homeworld?

Who can ever forget the uber-evil Diana? Cold-blooded (literally) and ruthless Visitor officer who wouldn't stop at nothing to pursue her ambitions, ever if it means going against her superiors.

Anyway, let alone the fact that Kenneth Johnson (the creator of the whole 'V' universe) did not authorise the ensuing TV series (the one which proceeded the mini series in 1983), he has absolutely no say in this new 2009 version.

However, I applaud ABC Network's efforts to  recognise the fans of the original series by finding out from them what they remembered most about the original '83 mini series. Among the top responses included "the huge ships, the red uniforms, eating the hamster, the alien baby; and the human-latex masks used to hide the Visitors' true reptilian selves. Top executives at ABC mentioned that "We are well aware of those moments and looking to put our own little spin on them to tip our hat to the old audience."

Well, whatever it is, I look forward for these 4 episodes to be aired in Malaysia (or through bootleg DVDs, whichever first....even though I've already watched the pilot episode on youtube...heheheh..). Let's give it a chance...who knows, it might just recaptured the magic of the original mini series! Revive those magical 80s TV series!! (The A-Team's next by the way!!!)
