Eternals getting a movie

Another piece of exciting news from the 2019 SDCC for me was the announcement of the line-up for Marvel Studio's Eternals movie. The Eternals today/at this point of time post-Phase 3 MCU, is just like how the Guardians of the Galaxy was to many Marvel cinematic fans not so long ago. I remember the time in 2014 when newly self-professed Marvel fans uttering comments at the cinemas like "Who the heck are these Guardian of the Galaxy people?" or "Haven't heard of them before, I just know the Avengers, Marvel must've created them for the movie!"

Eternals, just like the Guardians of the Galaxy, has been around for quite some time. They have been around since the great Jack Kirby created them almost five decades ago since its creation in '76 and it has been one of the most intriguing bunch of characters in Marvel Comics' roster of superheroes.
13 years ago, I was one of the uber-comic geek who jumped for joy when Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr (both solid favorite writer/artist of mine!) announced their collaboration to create a new miniseries for the Eternals. That run not only made me want Toybiz (no Hasbro yet for Marvel Legends at this point) to make the action figures of the Eternals and hoping that Marvel would somehow make a point to make a movie for them (remember that we were 2 years short of the 1st Iron Movie at the time).

Fast forward 13 years later, and my wish (and thousands of other fans' wishes too I suppose) is Marvel Studio's command.

During the recent SDCC, Marvel Studios gave everyone a first glimpse of the movie by presenting a poster art that shows us how the Celestials look like. The Celestials are the beings that had sent the race of immortal aliens known as Eternals to Earth to protect it from the Deviants. Just google 'em up and you can read more about them. Not only that, but Marvel Studios had also held a panel session that introduced the line up of actors that would be playing them Eternals in their upcoming movie. A bunch of them I don't really know of but I'm really excited at Angelina Jolie playing Thena, Salma Hayek playing Ajak and a relatively Hollywood-unknown Don Lee playing Gilgamesh (I'm pretty sure this dude goes by another name in Korea because he's been in heaps of movies already over in his native country!).

Wait, just how would Marvel Studios tie Eternals/Celestials into the current MCU?

Those who were sharp enough would've noticed that the Celestials, the ancient entities with energy manipulation capabilities that have existed from the beginning of time, have already made their appearances in the MCU. These guys can be gigantic in sizes and be of normal human sizes at their own will. Remember that big 'ol skull-turned space port in the first 'Guardians movie? The one they called Knowhere? That is a skull of a dead Celestial. Mindblown.....yeah, me too at first.

And EgoStar-Lord's daddy from the second 'Guardians movie? Yup, he was a Celestial too.

It'll be interesting to see how Marvel Studios bring their newly acquired cosmic properties like the Fantastic Four, Galactus and the Silver Surfer into the MCU fold soon too.

November 2020 is suddenly so far away....
