Random Beatles moment: Hello Goodbye

is is yet another effort of mine to somehow create a series of entries of a particular subject of interest. This time around, I want to share and showcase The Beatles as my main driving force of becoming a musician and why they rock my world! These may not be in running order i.e. may not be in an orderly time sequence, so it won't follow The Beatles right from their humble beginnings in the late 50s up to their break-up in 1970. Rather, I'll post random entries/news about them and those defining moments/musical breakthrough that has left a massive impact to music in general.
For my inaugural entry, here's a screen shot of The Beatles performing the song Hello Goodbye in a video made special for The Ed Sullivan Show in November 1967.

It's worth to note that while McCartney loved the idea of the underlying message portrayed by the song, citing "There is an answer to everything...when there's black, there is also white etc.!", Lennon disliked the idea of a nonsensical lyrical approach, criticising it as "three minutes of contradictions and meaningless juxtapositions". This performance is also very significant (as far as bass guitar enthusiasts are concerned) as it is the first time Paul McCartney uses his Rickenbacker 4001 bass in a public appearance as opposed to his ever-present Hofner 500/1 violin bass. Previously, we could only get to see him using the Ric bass during studio recordings of albums such as Revolver and Rubber Soul, as depicted below.

On a separate news, THE woman who inspired The Beatles' classic Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, from the classic Sgt Pepper album, this week lost her life to a little-known disease. Lucy Vodden died aged just 46 after being diagnosed with lupus - which causes the body to attack itself. She was a childhood friend of John Lennon's son, Julian Lennon. At nursery school, he drew a picture of her with diamond-shaped eyes surrounded by stars and showed his dad, saying: "It's Lucy in the sky with diamonds." Rest in piece now....and picture yourself in a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
