Star Wars' Toys Carnival @ E Curve, 29 May '10......

As with most Lucas devotees, together with my wife and a couple of our fellow collector buddies, I too was highly anticipating this so-called '30th Anniversary Celebrations of the Empire Strikes Back movie' ("ESB"). Well, don't let the title fool ya'll. There ain't no toys fer sale nor any freebies given during the event. In fact, I believed many had the impression that there was gonna be some sort of discounted Star Wars stuffs on sale. 'Twas too early for the release of the recently-announced vintage carded figures. All we knew was that it had something to do with the 30th anniversary of ESB. I got my money on Hasbro to reveal or rather 'preview' the upcoming Star Wars figures and vehicles.

For the benefit of non-Malaysian readers of me' humble blog, let me just update ya' on the venue of this event. E Curve is part of a retail shopping centre called The Curve located somewhere in Damansara, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia.
Behold, the itinerary....

As we arrived rather early at noon, we were quite annoyed that the 'real' highlight of the event actually starts at 3.30pm aka the revealing of the upcoming August release of action-figures and vehicles. Managed to kill time by wandering around aimlessly at BORDERS and a round of sundaes at a nearby 'Scottish'-sounding fast food chain. Finally made our way back to E Curve around 3.00pm and found that a parade of rather oddly-assembled SW characters were on on the make-shift stage. The most glaringly 'odd' of them all is ol' Darth Vader himself. I mean, no disrespect to the person behind the mask (he's certainly no Dave Prowse I can tell ya' that! hehe...), but IMHO this Vader looks more like Spaceball's Dark Helmet rather than the imposing dark lord of the Sith.....*giggle*.

And to cap it all off, I agree with a buddy of mine when he said furiously that some of these 'cosplay' characters do not really belong to the ESB setup i.e. the AT-ST driver and the Red Imperial Guard do not make their appearances till ROTJ. A 'slight' overlook I'm sure by these 'seasoned' SW fans.....

Alas, the new toys were finally revealed at 3.30pm by some rep from Hasbro Malaysia with some help from Dark Helmet....errr, I mean Darth Vader (who almost ripped the AT-AT's head off by the way...LOL!)

Our first ever view of the mighty new AT-AT (or Big AT-AT) with our own eyes!

It's frickin' huge I tell ya'!

Darn, do I need a General Veers to be manning that command post behind them drivers or what!

Next to the booth, a diorama showcasing the AT-AT in action....

The Snowspeeder was also previewed...nice!

Bespin's Cloud Car.....hmmm, easy pass for me I think....

The new 'vintage-carded' figure collection!!!

And lastly, a closer look at the Bounty Hunters packaging.....they are said to come with a bunch of playable cards.

Oh boy...August is not gonna be kind to my wallet...LOL! May the force be with all of us collectors!
