Yet another BRILLIANT comic-book adaptation...Zombies galore!!!

Unless you've been living in an underground cave where cable TV reception is but a mere myth, you must have heard about the latest series by FOX that premiered on Halloween '10 called The Walking Dead ("The 'Dead"). Being a hardcore George A. Romero fan, I was ecstatic to find that my insatiable geeky appetite for zombie flicks would now be fulfilled every week for as long as AMC (that's the network responsible for bringing the comic book to life!) prolongs the series beyond the 1st season. True, we Malaysians only get to watch it over on our local tube 5 days after our American counterparts (and MOST parts of the world I reckon) do on their telly. But there's always this thing called the 'internet' and with the help of high-speed broadbands, we too get to see the 'uncensored' version (deemed too gory in these parts of the world....booo!) albeit a day later. Still, not too bad!

Truthfully, I've never even given the comic book series a chance before, but after watching the premier episode last week and the subsequent 2nd episode yesterday courtesy of the 'net, I just had to start reading the 1st Vol. of the TPB.....and I wasn't disappointed!!! Of course, there were few variations here and there, typical for on-screen adaptations, but they kinda complemented the original storyline presented in the comics. But overall, the TV series thus far has certainly captured the essence and the 'feel' of the comic storyline....and that's a good sign!

The Walking Dead portrays the story of the months and years proceeding a zombie apocalypse. It centers around a group of survivors, lead by the series' main antagonist, police officer Rick Grimes. The characters would soon find out that life in a world overrun by zombies sometimes were not as dangerous as the interpersonal conflicts/feuds between them that threatens their very survival. The comic book series is written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Kirkman was roped in as an executive producer for the series while three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer.

Two days ago, Fox International Channel ("FIC") announced the global renewal of The 'Dead series for a second season, following record-breaking premiere ratings in 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. Read all about it here.“The Walking Dead” has the accolade of being the highest-rated original series premiere ever to air on FIC simultaneously worldwide.

My verdict? This ain't no "LOST" by the way, so forget all those conspiracy theories/endless chasing-around-the-island hullabaloo....it's a freakin' zombie-survival drama.....so expect (literally) a lot of brain-bustin'/gut-spillin' action while the guys try to make it through the whole ordeal! Me likey! If you haven't watched it yet, you might wanna start now or risk missing out on one of the greatest comic-book adaptation AND possibly the coolest TV series ever.
