Random find: Chewbacca with C3-PO....

My wife came across this gem of an action figure while we were out hunting for something else at one of the toy-specialty store a couple of month ago. It was on discount, and the fact that it has the "Offer" sticker pasted on it (since removed here in the picture above) accentuated the fact that the store owner was trying to get rid of it at a small fraction of what it used to have cost us way back during the initial release period.  What a shame, such a great piece of figure (despite whatever you may have at the back of your minds on the abysmal articulations!) being let go for peanuts.....ah well, their loss means my gain!

Back of card shows some basic info on the Chewie aka how the scene goes in Empire Strikes back (ESB). C3-PO was basically 'dismantled' by friendly fire courtesy of the Imperial Stormtroopers and later was discovered by Chewie. Nice.....

For the record, I think this action figure was part of the Saga Collection series released way back in 2006. You'll soon see why I mentioned that its articulations are abysmal. Swivel-cut elbow joints and 'non-existent' knee articulations make this figure seems more like a statue than an action figure.

Here's the 'plus' point of this action figure set. When I say 'set', I simply mean that when you buy this Chewie action figure, you also get C3-PO albeit a 'dismantled' version of Goldenrod himself! So two figures for the price of one is truly a great deal. Staying true to the scene, a netting is also included here so that Chewie could carry the dismantled parts of Threepio when he discovered him at the Ugnaught recycling facility on Cloud City at Bespin.

Oh, did I mention that Threepio here is 'electronically' enabled? His eyes light up when you press his head down. I didn't bother to show that feature here because I think mine came with weak batteries hence his eyes weren't that illuminated when I pressed his head down.

Threepio's dismantled parts are truly a sight to behold! Although it's not possible to re-assemble him back into a proper protocal droid once again, his mutilated parts gave us a sight of his internal wires and thingamajigs.....really nice detailings by Hasbro!

Well I wouldn't exactly recommend this to those wanting to find a 'definitive' Chewbacca for their display shelves. But this figure is an excellent standalone centerpiece display on its own! Chewie & Threepio here is currently gracing my Star Wars display section and I can tell you even my son can immediately recognise the iconic scene from ESB! And for that I think this figure has truly indeed served its purpose.....notwithstanding its articulations or otherwise.

THE REBEL'S VERDICT: Although not truly a must for those finding a 'definitive' Chewie, I'd recommend getting this (if you can still track one down that is) if you want to re-create that classic scene from ESB on your display shelves. For a figure that costs next to nothing (God bless discount bins!!!) I think I might have uncovered a vastly under-appreciated figure here.
