Hah! At long last! We Malaysian collectors finally get to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' action figures and such on our shores! Thankfully, both the 'new' and the 'classic' action figures were brought into our TRU. I was afraid that we were not gonna get the 'classic' figures amidst some initial rumours that those were already scarce to begin with. Those rumours were obviously dumbfounded as the classics popped up at almost every major TRU in town. I know most of you collectors in the 'States have already seen these in the wild since late last year but as usual, we collectors at this far end of the earth only get to see stuff on our retail shelves pretty much later than everybody else....*bummer*. Anyway, better later than never I guess. The picture above was taken at the TRU near my place some days ago. As you can see, the 'classic' figures only constitute about one-fourth out of the total display
You see, my wife, my son and I immediately rushed to the store as soon as I finished work that day as we've been getting 'live feed' from a collector friend of ours who gave us a nudge that them 'Turtle toys have just been stocked at selected TRUs around town. To be honest, I had only set my eyes on the 'Classic' Turtles.
Word within the collector circle on that day has it that only 'certain' TRUs have them in stock. We visited two TRUs within our vicinity and found that only 1 out of the 2 stores had the 'Turtle display aisle....*gasp*...so the rumours had to be true then....that only a few selected (I'm guessing 'major') TRUs carry the action figures on their aisle!
I kinda like the new Nickelodeon TMNT series and I think the action figure line looks pretty good too! They're at the 4" scale point but they're pretty 'beefy' in terms of amount of plastic used to make each of the action figures....no 'anorexic' Hasbro Star Wars-Clone Wars-style figures here, just plain ol' sturdy and solid ones from Playmates. They're considerably cheaper too than the 4" Hasbro figures. I gotta say, the 'new' Turtles look darn good. I was amazed by the amount of details and great sculpt they had.
Am pretty tempted to get the new Turtles...and the 'Shell Raiser' van and the 'Sewer Lair' playset didn't make it any much easier for me to resist!
The Damage!!!
Ya' didn't think I was gonna leave empty-handed now did ya? As much as I was 'poisoned' to pick up some of the excellent 4" 'new' Turtles, I finally heeded to my original attention of getting the 'classic Turtles first before getting anything else. My wife and I also picked up the Raphael 'Ninja Combat Gear' for our son. The little guy is a fan of Raphael.....brings me back to '87 when yours truly was also a huge fan of the 'sai'-wielding Turtle! He's definitely my son!
