My son insisted on getting this set. He has a thing for Egyptian mummies. The set presents you a sarcophagus/Egyptian coffin being exhibited in a museum. There's this 'gold chain' attached the sarcophagus, which which can be used to pull the it open thus revealing the Mummy inside. At the bottom of the exhibit is a secret compartment to reveal a diamond and can be opened via a hinged cover at the front.

Also included is a case file showing the picture of a sarcophagus, map, and a picture of a diamond with a question mark imprinted next to it.

You get Scooby Doo and Shaggy together with the titular Mummy with this set. The Mummy has an alternative head of the criminal who poses as the accursed Egyptian figure while he scares people during his crime run.

It great to see that Shaggy comes with two face expressions. One depicts him as a scaredy cat and the other depicts him in his most nervous state of mind. The Mummy too has two face expressions, one being the Mummy itself and the other is the criminal mastermind behind the hoax. One can almost hear ..." I would've gotten away with it,  if not for you meddlin' kids!".

One thing that intrigued me is the burger at the back of the exhibit. Perhaps that is a throwback to the countless times where both Shaggy and Scooby unwillingly discovered some sinister plot  by some 'monster-ly' villains while embarking on their food hunt.

This set is a perfect accompaniment to those who want that museum-ly display  feel for your favorite Scooby characters.

Mystery Machine set

Can't believe Scooby Doo will be 50 years old in a few years' time. That's how retro this show is for those of you not in the know. They're up there together with the likes of The Flintstones and The Jetsons. The Mystery Machine aka THAT van they used to move from places to places is by far one of the most iconic pop culture vehicle that has ever graced our TV sets in the history of...err....TV. This is no doubt the most popular set from the entire Scooby Doo LEGO catalogue and be rest assured that most stores will run out of this set first. I've seen my local Hamley's stocking up more than 20 of this set some weeks ago but it was all gone the next day.

Ya get four (4) minifigures with this set i.e. Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Fred & a Zombie (not just any zombie but he's supposedly based on a character which appeared in one of the earlier episodes of Scooby Doo. This set is also the ONLY way you could get Fred as he does not appear in any other set except for this one. So, you mesh together a very popular/iconic TV vehicle and a hard to find minifigure....voila, you get a highly sought after LEGO set!

I like the tiny details such as the zipper/button at the back of the zombie head to show that there's a man inside a zombie suit, just waiting to be uncovered by those darn pesky kids!

There's also an animatronic/robotic tree in this set. You can clearly see that there's a control panel and a gem/stone embedded into it. There's also a spot where the zombie can stand and take a peer over it.

Let's talk a bit about the Mystery Machine.....

There's a whole lotta stickers on this vehicle this I can tell ya! Most exterior designs i.e. the Mystery Machine wording, wheel caps are all stickers. They're not bad but I would've preferred otherwise. Stickers may peel off in the future so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Two minifigures can sit in the cab and you can stuff Scooby in the rear part (trust me, that's where he'd want to be as there is a stove/griller complete with a sick at the back!). There's no doubt that all 4 human characters cannot fit at the front (like in the show) neither two can fit in the back. But I think with some creativity you can remove certain fixtures from the rear/back to fit the other two (Daphne and Wilma) but that leaves Scooby out of the van....*whatever*.

The roof is removable and you can open up the back of the MM as there are hinges at either side of the rear end. I love how LEGO detailed the interior. There are bulletin boards, computer screens and other thingmajiggy required for super sleuths to solve crimes. All of these plus the aforementioned griller and sink for Scoob and Shaggy to prepare their grub of course! So you imagine the plethora of stuff they put at the rear of the MM alone. Very cool.

Seriously, if you can just buy one Scooby Doo LEGO set and if that huge castle set is way above your budget, then I recommend you to pick this Mystery Machine set up. Grab it before it disappears completely from the shelves!
