Iron Man 3: My quick thoughts...

Would you believe it, I've watched Iron Man 3 TWICE already in the span of 2 days with my wife and son, fulfilling two different movie date invitations. Honestly, I didn't really have to watch it 2 times to acknowledge the film's awesomeness (and I'm not saying this because I'm a huge Marvel fan!) but it does help you to discover those bits & pieces you might've missed from your first sitting.

Anyway, here's some of my quick thoughts on the movie...[SPOILER ALERT!]. Those who haven't watched the movie yet, thou have been warned!

Marvel Select Juggernaut....

Marvel Select Juggernaut

I was guilty of ignoring this piece of action-figure when it first came out in 2011. I initially dissed it off as being 'too out of scale with the MLs' and I remembered having some other qualms about it. So I totally decided against picking it up for my Marvel shelf, especially with the thought that I already have the Series 5 ML Juggs on display at home. It took me almost 2 years later to realise that I was in danger of missing out one of the best action figure made in 2011. I was lucky enough to find the Marvel Select Juggernaut still on sale through our local eBay for a decent price. Glad I picked it up....this is one HUGE monster for anyone's display shelf. Boy, I'm such a sucka for these bulky action figures!

A little bit of haul for the past few weeks.....

some haul during March '13

Honestly I can't say that I'd be able to catch up with myself to do reviews on these stuff. I've already got a backlog of stuff just sittin' and waitin' in line to be opened and reviewed...(yup, some of those stuff are still inside their packaging....*bummer*). Gotta find time to open and fiddle with those before these newer ones clog my 'unopened' shelf. I haven't been indulging myself with 'major' plastic crack haul lately (save for some select few during past months) so I guess I got a little bit carried away this time....LOL.

It's a whole smorgasbord of different stuff this time around, ranging from 1/6 figures, 6" figures right down to them 4-inchers.

Who collects (Matty Collector's) The Watchmen?

who watches the watchmen?

These Watchmen figures made by DC Direct (now DC Collectible) have abysmal articulations. They can hardly move, let alone being posed in heroic stances and such. They're good for some poses though...and that's enough for me. Whatever it is, Matty Collector's versions have worse scale issues! Come on Matty, Rorsharch taller than Dr Manhattan? Thanks for letting me keep my money Matty....I don't have to start another Watchmen line-up in my collection!

Sideshow teases their 1/6 Darth Malgus!!!

I don't really dig the Expanded Universe (EU), save for certain storyline i.e. The Thrawn Trilogy (Zahn's books) and the Star Wars Legacy comic series. I haven't even played the Old Republic game on my PS:3 before but I have seen cut-scenes of Darth Malgus many times before and I must say....he looks awesome for a villain!

Had such a hard time tracking his 3.75" VOTC figure down (I'd like to thank my better half for hunting that down for me!) since he is unofficially THE most sought after SW EU action figure amongst us collectors. The crappy distribution problem here in Malaysia certainly did not help.

And now, Sideshow has finally/officially given us an image of their upcoming 1/6 Malgus figure! Breathless.....and we've not even seen waist downwards yet!

I just wanna say 2 things......he's a total BAD-A$$......and......a definite WANT for me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hot Wheels Retro vehicles......

Batman Batmobile TV Series
Ghostbuster Ecto-1

Knight Rider KITT

Goodness! I can't tell ya how hard it is to track these down at retail. I've been drooling (and downright envious) of those collectors who have been lucky enough to snag these when it was first released some weeks ago. A collector friend of mine actually paid more than double the price to get each of these into his Hot Wheels collection (these are actually RM20 or roughly USD6.60 each). The word on the street was, these were immediately snapped up the moment they were put on retail aisle here in Malaysia. Obviously not wanting to fall prey to them damn dirty scalpers, I waited diligently for the re-stock....and it was well rewarded when these began to pop up again almost everywhere. They didn't last long though....now I can only see the '66 Batmobile hanging on pegs, but no more of K.I.T.T. or Ecto-1 anywhere. I've heard about (and seen!) K.A.R.R. (K.I.T.T.'s arch-enemy) before but can't find him anywhere in the wild. The search continues!

Art Feather Bumblebee

Art Feather Bumblebee

Today I'm gonna look at an offering by a 3rd party Transformers company called Art Feather. This one's pretty obvious....I don't think anybody (well, at least youse TF fans) to will fail to recognize who this character is. In fact, by producing AND clearly stating who the character is on the packaging, Art Feather is clearly oblivious to the fact that they're liable for a lawsuit by Hasbro, THE official/licensed maker for all Transformers toys and stuff. But let's not get into that. We're here for the toy....and that's what we're gonna stick to. Let's keep all those legal mumbo-jumbo out of the geeksphere shall we?

We've got a G1 Bumbleebee before through the Hasbro: Universe/TomyTakara: Henkei line some years back, but as faithful it was to the G1 version, it was never close enough to the on-screen version of the loveable VW robot we knew. Well, Art Feather has risen to the challenge and gave us an 'screen accurate' 'Deluxe class' Bumblebee for you. Just how good this toy is? Read on to find out.

Jakks Pacific Men In Black (MIB) 3 Agent J & K.....

Agent J & Agent K_MIB

I was never really interested to get these 3.75" action figures in the first place as it was ridiculously priced at almost USD18 here in Malaysia....no s**t! I truly enjoyed the MIB:3 movie (Josh Brolin deserves an action figure!) but I was flabbergasted to find out that the action figures would cost and arm and a leg. So I waited, with a fool's hope that one day TRU or some other retailers would finally mark them down as they are (still) cluttering retail aisles everywhere. I was right, as I finally found these at just USD3 each (well USD5 if you wanna go with the 'deluxe sets' that came with the 'agent gears' i.e. the Neuralyser and the Noisy Cricket). These actually 'transform' into vehicles for the action figures but I wasn't too bothered with those features.

Noisy cricket & Neuralyser

I decided to go with the 'deluxe sets' anyway as I wanted to get these gears for my son (who goes around in his sunglasses and introducing himself as Agent J!). He was obviously overjoyed when I gave these to him!

Anyway, coming back to the figures, I think the reduced price would definitely encourage more collectors to pick multiples of J and K for customising purposes. Their bodies are pretty generic looking and I reckon some simple head swaps with your GI Joes, Star Wars or Marvel Universe figures would give you endless customising opportunities. An immediate custom figure comes to my mind.....cough...*Agent Coulson*....cough!

THE REBEL'S VERDICT: HIGHLY recommended at these price points! In fact, I'm thinking of getting more to create my own army of movie S.H.I.E.L.D agents!

Mini Muggs Captain America (Avengers movie)....

Mighty Muggs Captain America (Avengers movie)

My wife has a bunch of these sitting pretty in their packaging still. I don't think she ever has the intentions to open them up anytime soon. I tend to agree with her since these 'cute' heroes/villains look pretty cool inside their simple packagings. Captain America here however, belongs to our son who gleefully ripped opened the packaging when he received it as a gift from his uncle! *The horror*...LOL. Anyway it gives daddy a chance to grab him for a quick snapshot. Mini Muggs figures are a smaller version of its Mighty Muggs cousin. Now there's even a smaller version called the Micro Muggs (started with the Iron Man 3 line I think). Articulations on these babies are pretty basic. 5 points of articulations (or sometimes 6 if the figures are able to twist and turn their weapons or whatever's in their hands) is ok for such a simple action figure.

My quick thoughts on G.I. Joe: Retaliation....

First of all let me tell you how good it is to be back. Was quite tied up with several matters for the past month. Heck my last posting was in early February '13! Goodness, I've even missed March....yup, no posts at all during March. Worst case of writer's block ever...sort of.

Brought my wife and kid to see the second instalment of the G.I. Joe movie the other day. G.I. Joe 2 or officially known as G.I. Joe: Retaliation is a total opposite from the 1st movie (Rise of Cobra or ROC for short). While ROC was more 'kid-friendly', 'Retaliation is almost Nolan-esque...the sense of realism is really, well....realistic.

Totally loved the star-studded cast member. Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson and Ray Stevenson (outstanding performance by the man!) was but a few A-list stars that really made the movie truly enjoyable. I can't fathom the fact that there are people who actually dissed the movie outright. These so-called movie 'critics' said that the plot was weak, acting was terrible, CGI was on overkill etc. just to name a few. I'm telling you, these 'experts' know nuts about G.I. Joe and its history to really appreciate the movie. Heck, you don't even need to be a hardcore fan of the classic cartoon series to enjoy 'Retaliation. It's just that good of a movie.

I can imagine the look of fanboys when they see a certain 'iconic vehicle' making its way onto the big screen towards the end of the movie. I was too excited until I actually forgot to blink my eyes!

However, I was a bit disappointed by the new director's decision to leave out Scarlett and Ripcord out of the movie. Those were among the outstanding ones from ROC who deserved to be in the sequel. No General Hawk (Dennis Quaid) too...what a bummer.

Whatever it is...both my wife and I loved the movie. I think we're gonna watch it again sometime soon. If you haven't watched it yet, then I recommend you to do so.
