Hot Toys' Movie Avengers Thor...

Hot Toys 1/6 Movie Avengers Thor

At the time of writing this, I had just finished re-watching the Avengers movie blu-ray at home (again) with my better half and kid. Gotta admit, it gets better and better with every sitting. I love Joss Whedon's directorial style and I think he's the right man to further helm future Avengers movies. Now that Avengers 2 and 3 is a go, I can only wish that the list of cast will remain the same through out. Most fanboys had concerns that RDJ might not even make it to the second Avengers flick but that unfounded rumour turned out to be untrue as the man has put down his signatures on paper to resume his role as the great billionaire, playboy & philanthropist for the next couple of movies. But for me, I also would like to see the likes of Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo to continue with their respective roles (can you believe it that I didn't mention Chris Evans or even Scarjo here? Haha...). Anyway, let's look into my latest Hot Toys sixth scale Avengers' figure, the God of Thunder himself....the Mighty Thor!

The Walking Dead Season 4....ETA Oct '13!

The Walking Dead Season 4_promo poster
Well, October '13 can't come soon enough. I'm 'dead' eager (pardon the feeble pun attempt)  to find out what's gonna happen next with Rick and gang in the prison they now call home. Are they planning just to sit around and wait for the Guv' to come back (and possibly with more artillery than ever) for his revenge? Are they already planning to move out in search of a new home? How are the new characters gonna fit in with the rest of the regulars? What's planned for Tyreese next? How is Daryl coping with Merle's demise? These are but some of the burning questions I'm sure many fans are dying to know the answers to.
I'm gonna do a review on some 'Dead action figures here soon to quell our 'dying' thirst (there I go again!) for the new season to begin. Watch this space real soon!

Matty continues to alienate fans...

Wow! Just wow. After announcing that a 'much-demanded fan-favourite character' i.e Fang Man was just gonna be made available to subcribers in March, now Matty continues to astonish non-subscribers by announcing that Clamp Champ (a CORE/ESSENTIAL figure in the MOTU lore) would not be available on 'day of sale' in July '13. Thanks a lot Matty! After years of battling the red/white screen of death just to get my hands on your action figures, now it's like you're literally spitting in my face by saying that I won't be able to get a chance to complete my core characters line-up if I don't buy your yearly subscription. That's not a way to treat collectors that have literally giving you money for your over-priced toys now ain't it?
And this is EXACTLY why I'm starting to pull the handbrake on collecting MOTU Classic figures...*sigh*. Sad....really great action figure line that invokes my 80s nostalgia feelings....a bit over-priced but I can take it, sure.....but this latest fiasco is just too much Matty. You should really learn something from the likes of Playmates or (can't believe I'm saying this!) Hasbro. Put the fans FIRST before your deep corporate pockets!
It looks like now I'm just gonna hunt down those 'impossible-to-get' core characters that I really need in the aftermarket.

'Nuff said....(I need me a new 'Classic' line to concentrate on!).

Playmates' TMNT Classics!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classics

Let me tell you this....it was such a relief to finally see that some company did bring in Playmates' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys into the pegs of my TRUs here in Malaysia! I was worried sick that I'd never see my beloved mutated sea-creatures-turned-ninja anytime soon because as most Asian collectors are aware of, we don't get a number of (if not MOST) cool toys that has already hit the shelves in the States let alone getting them at the same period of time. As predicted, a year after our American collector friends got their 'TMNT' fix, both the 'Classics' and 'new' Turtles hit the Singaporean and Malaysian TRUs. Better late than never I guess. Today I'm gonna look at the classic Turtles....

Marvel Select Thanos....

Marvel Select Thanos

I think it's common knowledge amongst collectors that the Marvel Select figures are a tad too big/tall to fit into the Marvel Legends 6" scale. In fact, they are actually in the 7" scale category which makes them MS human-folks look extraordinarily bigger than the ML guys. But when you talk about the bigger humanoid characters, they seem to fit in seamlessly. Well, as a start, they're supposed to be bigger anyway than the rest of the normal homosapiens. Thanos never had his Marvel Legends figure made (thus far) so it was natural to have everyone scrambling for the Marvel Select Thanos when it first came out in 2005. For the record, I was never a huge fan of the whole 'cosmic' agenda in Marvel Comic's universe, but to ignore Thanos will deprive my display shelf of the presence of one of the most iconic cosmic character of all time. He's the main focal point in Infinity Gauntlet...that much I know...hahaha. When I found the MS Thanos on sale (at a relatively cheaper price than usual!) through my local eBay, I knew I had to get him.

My thoughts on Man of Steel...

Took my better half and kid to watch Man of Steel last night. My expectations were pretty high for this movie considering Zack Snyder did such a great job on 300 and Watchmen...well, to me at least. I've already read some 'less-than-enthusiastic' aka negative comments about the movie from some of those who caught the premier showing a day earlier but I'm not about to let some 'rotten eggs' spoil my session last night. Ain't no spoilers here I think, just some general and brief thoughts on the new Supes flick...so feel free to continue reading my short rant.

Sideshow's Sixth Scale Padawan Obi Wan Kenobi...

Sideshow 1/6 Padawan Obi Wan Kenobi

Ok, I admit it. A LOT of people said The Phantom Menace (TPM) sucks big time. I get it, most people were not interested to see how the whole universe came about before the events of the Battle of Yavin took place. Couple that with the fact that the mediocre acting in Episodes I till III were nowhere near the quality we've seen in Episodes IV-VI....a definite recipe for disaster. But one of the positives of Episode I was that we got to see a very young Obi Wan Kenobi at the beginning of his 'career'. Yes, I looked forward to see the 'Padawan' Obi Wan in action, whatmore when I first heard that he's gonna accompany his 'master' on some treaty mission. The time gap between Sideshow's Sixth Scale Qui Gon Jinn and the Padawan Obi Wan Kenobi is totally unnaceptable. When I first receive Qui Gon way back in mid 2006, I was so confident that the Padawan Obi Wan was to follow suit almost immediately. Darth Maul came around the same time but Obi Wan wasn't even the works until we saw the teaser pic sometime in early 2012. I knew I had to get him at all cost....Qui Gon's been pretty lonely on his own. I'm actually glad Sideshow waited for 6 years before releasing the Padawan. The advancements in 1/6 action figure engineering has grown leaps and bounds since the mid 2000s.

So let's see if Sideshow's Sixth Scale Padawan Obi Wan Kenobi from the 'Order of the Jedi' series is a home run or otherwise

Upcoming Marvel Universe figures....*bleh*

Take a look at 2 of the upcoming figures from Wave 22 of the Marvel Universe line. These are gonna come with Electra and Rhino (a straight repack). Mysterio is a welcome addition and I know most collectors are looking forward to a 3.75" Elektra. Rhino's a pretty good choice too considering many of youse missed the one that came in that comic 2-pack. The real bummer here is (another) Captain America (again). Come on Hasbro, how many time have you released him before in his modern get up? I remember the time when Marvel Legends collector of the Toybiz days became really sick of getting multiple versions of Wolvie in almost every other wave.

And this is why yours truly is seriously considering quitting the Marvel Universe line....LOL

Retro cartoon series: Doncha' miss the 80s?

80s nostalgia

A lot more missing...I know. I'm hoping someday Hasbro will eventually release a re-issue of the Kenner M.A.S.K. toys (no 're-imagining' stuff please!) and maybe somebody will pick up the Coleco license for Starcom too (wishful thinking!). I also have the Matty Collector Voltron figures but they're not pictured here since all of them are still inside their packaging.. There were many more great 80s cartoon series that deserves to be re-released & immortalised in their 'updated' plastic glory.....Centurions, The Gobots, Visionaries, SilverHawks, Bravestarr, Real Ghostbusters, Spiral Zone, G-Force etc etc.

If they can re-issue the 'classics' for Masters of The Universe, Thundercats. G.I. Joe, TMNT and Transformers, then I'm sure toy companies can do it for the rest I've just mentioned towards the end of the previous paragraph above.

Here's hoping and wishing. 'Nuff said.

Hot Toys' Robocop...ETA 2014!!!

Hot Toys' Robocop preview pics
Honestly, when Hot Toys first announced the Iron Man Mark 42 in all its 'diecast' glory, I didn't even flinch. Having a fully diecast Mark 42 was just *meh* to me when I still haven't received my Mark VII. But when Hot Toys finally released their preview pictures of their 'also fully diecast' Robocop, I was instantly sold! Old 'tin-head' will come on his own or you could also opt for the version that comes with the mechanical chair/docking station. But does it come with the 'baby-food' dispenser too? That would really be something!

Both versions will also come with the 'battle-damaged' helmet and chest armour for your pleasure. Fans have been asking one question since the release of these preview pictures.....would we get an 'unmasked' Murphy head as well? The answer is a solid...NO!

Then came these 'behind the scene/WIP' pictures. Seems that Hot Toys 'listened' to their fans and is already working on the unmasked head. But the thing is.....we have to buy 'another' version of Robocop to get this. I'm betting my behind that it's old tin-head as how he'd appear in Robocop 2. Expected...really. Weren't you just waiting for HT to milk the line to the death? Hahaha....

The Rebel says.....get this into your pre-order list, even if the price is a bit over the top at USD350++. You gotta have this piece of 80s icon on your shelves people! I gots to have me that docking chair! Anyway, you'd have a long way to go till the expected release date in June '14.
