Iron Man: Mark V from Hot Toys!

Iron Man Mark V (Hot Toys)

Well, first of all pardon me for sharing such a 'back-dated' figure so late towards the end of the year (when I say late I mean most of you collectors have probably read reviews on this Hot Toys figure from other toy websites before!). But as they all say, there ain't any hard-and-fast rules about toy blogging nowadays. Heck, you can even blog about a toy that has been released a decade before and still you'd draw readers to your humble blog. You get the drift  =p......anyway this excellent Hot Toys Iron Man Mark V figure belongs to The Rebel Page's own (sometime reviewer) the_ridz, and I can only thank him for allowing me to snap some pictures of his latest haul (and I've snapped pictures of his ROTLA Indiana Jones too, but let's get into this Mark IV figure first shall we!)

Amazing new artwork for MOTU's 30th Anniversary!

MOTU-30th-Anniversary-Art-Fight

Hey there MOTU fans! MattyCollector has previewed a selection of amazing new artwork for the Masters Of The Universe 30th Anniversary. These new artwork will be featured on the toy packaging in 2012, so take a peek at these excellent new artwork before it gets hidden behind the layout of the packaging. I know some of you hardcore MOTU fans have been complaining that these new artwork have not been faithful to the 'classic' look of the MOTU brand but personally I think these are great updates to the classic characters (and they're not as 'deviated' as the 200X versions anyway)!

Quick Preview: Hot Toys "Black" Spidey with Sandman base....

Hot-Toys-Spider-Man-with-Sandman-Base

At first I was thinking...."Yawn, another Spiderman figure from Hot Toys!". Then I saw something special about this latest 1/6th offering. Something I wish they had done during their red-and-blue Spidey release. Had they included this piece of 'item' with the red/blue Spidey, I would've pre-ordered that in a heartbeat. Heck, now I'm even considering gettin' this latest HT Spidey figure!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Movie Trailer....*sweet!*

What can I say.....I've been waiting for this movie to be realised since the last of the LOTR movies. I went over the book twice and realised that I've actually enjoyed The Hobbit more than the LOTR trilogy books.....well, partially due to the fact that there's gonna be a dragon involved in the story...*oops, did I just give away a spoiler plot to you  non-book readers? lol*. Anyway, here's to us...counting our days till Dec '12!

In the meantime, it's time for me to revisit my Toybiz LOTR 6" action figure collection...just to re-ignite the Tolkien mood in anticipation of this movie!

Here's the movie teaser poster released concurrently with the trailer above.....absolutely love it!

The Dark Knight Rises Official Movie Trailer....

Released two days ago. This should give us a taste of what's coming next July. Looks good! I can't fathom some of the comments on youtube though....there were some smarty-pants who commented that Nolan deviated from the comics by giving Bane an on-screen genius personae. What the heck man....it's already well-known that Bane is a super-strong villainous genius in the comics. Just because the character looked and acted dumb albeit very strongly in the Batman & Robin (1997) flick, it doesn't mean that he's gonna do the same here in Nolan's version!

Another 6 months to go.....*shucks*

The Amazing Spiderman teaser poster.....

amazing-spider-man-movie-poster-teaser_Dec '11

Teaser poster from the upcoming Spidey reboot (July '12) flick. I quite like it actually, reminds me a lot of the early Spidey comics I've read, especially the origin issue. The image looks mysterious, dark, melancholic & intriguing.....'nuff said.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.......

Saw the new 'Impossible movie two nights ago with my better half. Call it what you want....Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol or Mission Impossible 4, the movie still kicks a**

Personally, I feel that this movie trumps the first 3 movies easily. I mean I really liked MI:2 better than the 1st or the 3rd installments...but after seeing Ghost Protocol, I think this new film takes the cake! Not only it brought back the excitement last seen in MI:2, I also think that the action sequences were excellent. This was a very 'painful' movie indeed for Ethan Hunt!

Truthfully, the film had the air of James Bond about it. Cool gadgets, action sequences, great acting and good humour rolled into one. It was kinda cool too to see the likes of Simon Pegg (Shaun of The Dead) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye from The Avengers movie!) providing the humour, even if not intentional, to the film.

Heard that Mr Cruise did all of his stunts himself. If it's really true then it's really impressive since one of the highlight of the whole film is the scene where Ethan Hunt  scaled up the highest building in the world (man that was a heart-stopper!!!). Word is, it's really Cruise we get to see in action way up high on the 130th floor, about a third of a mile off the ground (*shudder*). Ok, no more spoilers.....just go out and catch the film already!!!

The Rebel's verdict: 4.5 out of 5 stars!

Upcoming Revoltech Pixar Collection Mr. Incredible figure....

Mr-Incredible-Revoltech

This figure in due to be released in Feb '12. I don't usually dig these Revoltech figures. Their excellent articulations aside, I just can't come to terms that their 5" scale doesn't really fit with any other toylines in most of our action figure collection (save for those few notable McFarlane 5-incher liek Halo figs etc.). My wife and I have a soft-spot for the Incredibles movie though, so there is a (very, very, very) remote chance that I'll be giving this figure a thought...

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Exclusive Premiere Trailer!!!

Watch this trailer and tell me it doesn't remind you of the action sequences taken off the 80s cartoon series! This is insane....it looks better than the first movie (Rise of Cobra) already!!! I can't believe it, we're finally getting a live-action film that is faithfully true to its 80s cartoon version....(are you listening Michael Bay?!!). June 2012 is gonna be a heckuva time for movie buffs. G.I. Joe: Retaliation is a must-watch for me next to the Dark Knight Rises film. Watch the trailer above until the end and you'd be surprised on the inclusion of a fan-favourite action actor (apart from the very obvious Mr Dwayne Johnson that is!).

The Dark Knight Rises teaser poster!!!

Bane_Dark Knight Rises_Teaser Poster

This teaser poster popped up on the 'net yesterday. Very "Inception-esqe" teaser poster....typical of Nolan. This promises a 'smashing' ending indeed! Is Bane (inevitably) going to break the Bat? Man, the wait is unbearable....June '12 is so far away!

The un-boxing of Hot Toys' Christopher Reeve Supes!

Superman intro pic

Okay, so I know that many of you collectors have already picked up this excellent Hot Toys figure about a month ago or so. I only got mine a week ago. Naturally I was excited to finally get one of the most anticipated 1/6th action figure ever in the history of action-figure collecting! Here are a few pictures as I opened the packaging for the first time....(actual review of the figure might not come so soon though....LOL!).

Marvel's 6" Loki: Comic series review....

Loki

Bought this sometime back but only recently found the time to do a proper photoshoot on it. Inevitably, a review was to follow suit before this figure disappears within the great Rebel Toy Vault....lol! Honestly, I wasn't too keen to get my hands on this Loki figure. I was (back then) adamant that I already have a 'definitive' comic series Loki i.e. ML Toybiz Loki from yesteryear. It was only when somebody posted a close-up of his headsculpt that I was finally swayed.

End Nov '11 el purchaso!

El purchaso_end Nov '11

It's that time of the month again. Yeah....this is usually the time when I unleash my inner geek and snag a whole bunch of plastic 'crack' to satisfy my on-going cravings for action figures. Not many though this time around, but as you can probably guess from the picture above, the most significant from the lot is probably that huge 'S' shaped box with that certain recognisable DC superhero logo. Yup, I finally got my HT Supes! It's an early birthday prezzie....*thank me lucky stars!*. Apart from that, there's also:

- Eaglemoss DC Superhero Aquaman.....man, I can't believe how hard it is to get these nowadays here in KL. It's truly becoming a rare item indeed. I just hope that it won't be as hard to find them Marvel Eaglemoss figurines when they hit Malaysia soon.

- Transformers Prime Bumble Bee.....truth be told, this was bought for my son, but he insisted that I include it in my weekly haul snapshot, how sweet is that ?  =)  Not really a fan of the character design though, but it's cool to have another variation of the 'Bee nevertheless.

- Crossbones.....this figure is supposedly very hard to find in the open market. I guess it's partly due to Hasbro's 'one-per-case' hulaballoo yet again. Never was tempted to get him on a few occasion before (was on retail price), but when I found him at half price the other day (plus the fact that my wife had a discount voucher) I just couldn't resist throwing in my loose change I had in my pockets to get him!

Man, this action figure 'sucks' (pun intended)!!!

Leech: Evil Master of Power Suction

Yeah, the pun is pretty lame. Leech is a character taken off the She-Ra cartoon series. He's a energy-sucking amphibious baddie who's not to be messed with. Get it? He has suction capabilities....hence he 'sucks'....  =p I was initially skeptical about gettin' this guy. I mean, he's goofy-looking and his headsculpt looks like a character of the Muppets Show, but I soon realised that he's a must-get if I wanna to complete my evil Horde ensemble. So here he is......(shame on you non-Horde believers! LOL).

The long wait till July '12.....

Bane_Empire Mag scan

Here's something you've probably seen over at the internet. An image of Bane from the upcoming TDK Rises movie, scheduled to hit theaters worldwide next July '12. I have only one thing to say.....damn, this looks bad-ass! Now we wait......

New Marvel Universe 2-packs are in the house!

New Marvel Universe 2-packs are in!
Stumbled across these while taking a stroll at a nearby retail outlet yesterday night with my son. Pretty tempting. I could use that Quicksilver/Wonderman 2-pack....and maybe that Bullseye/Daredevil 2-pack too. Alas I have other geeky priorities this month (and PLUS the fact that 6-incher Marvel Legends action figures are on their way back in!)....and due to the fact that these will cost ya' 20 American bucks per pack dampened me from opening my wallet (hey that's the cost for one excellent MOTU Classic figure mind you!). So these are gonna have to wait. Should serve as good news to the rest of the Malaysian Marvel U collectors!

K.O. toys by Hasbro?! What the heck?!

cannon force ironhide....K.O. toy by Hasbro?

This particular piece of the latest offering of a 'variant toy' by Hasbro was spotted by The Rebel Page's very own reviewer, the_ridz during his routine walkabout at our nearby TRU store. Take a look at the color scheme of "Cannon Force Ironhide" above. Man, what a disgrace! I mean, you can only go so far in milking the collectors, but to give Ironhide here a rubbish color scheme that is normally 'reserved' for K.O. toys....is a hit below the belt for us collectors! And don't even get us started on the variant for Optimus! Come on Hasbro....stop milking the cow dry. You could save the trouble and give us more G1-related offerings instead!

'Nuff said.

The most powerful man in the universe....(YET he still needs armour)!!!

Battle-Armor He-Man: Most Powerful Man in the Universe

Hey everybody. I'm not feeling too quirky enough to open up the rest of my recent acquisitions and let alone to shoot photos or review them (*lazy-mode*). So what I'm gonna do here is to review one of my previous plastic acquisitions (in fact I have heaps of 'em just lying around waiting to be reviewed), the excellent MOTU Classics' Battle-Armor He-Man. I just can't believe that it took me SO long to finally get him. This figure is definitely one of THE most nostalgic figure in my books because I had such an attachment to the original figure way back in the 80s, yet it took many months of hesitations till I finally caved in to get him!

Feeble haul @ end-Oct'11....

Small haul @ end Oct '11

Here are some 'el purchaso' of mine towards the end of Oct '11.

DC Direct Arkham Asylum figures
For those who're familiar with the Arkham Asylum video game, you'd probably recognize that both The Joker and Harley Quinn were faithful representations of both characters as they'd appeared in the game. I am however, only interested in getting the villains as I feel that I already have an abundance of Batman action figures in my collection already, hence explaining why I didn't get the Batman figure to go with these two villains. I can't wait to get Bane & Killer Croc next!

Star Wars Vintage Collection (VOTC) Landspeeder & Luke's Tauntaun
Woohoo! I've always wanted the landspeeder since watching 'A New Hope' all those years ago. It took me a while to finally decide whether to get that Luke Skywalker's Tauntaun as I've read many collectors complaining that one can't possibly differentiate between this tauntaun and THAT tauntaun that came with the "Search for Luke Skywalker" set.

Hot Wheels Batmobile & Dodge Challenger
While I'm not exactly a hardcore Hot Wheels collector, I have been drawn to some of their offerings lately. Got myself the Arkham Asylum's Batmobile and Green Lantern's 1971 Dodge Challenger. Pretty good score if I do say so myself but honestly I'm pretty gutted that I'm yet to stumble across any 'The A-Team' van on retail shelves.

HW haul......Green Lantern & Arkham Asylum

The Walking Dead novel & Y: The Last Man Library Edition Vol. 4
In conjunction with the airing of Season 2 of the 'Dead TV series, creator Rob Kirkman teamed up with writer Jay Bonansinga to give us a brand new novel adventure. I've also snagged Vol. 4 of the Y: The Last Man (long overdue!) tradepaperback. At the point of typing this, I'm already halfway through the 'Dead book.

NECA's 6" Robocop...

Robocop (NECA)

One of my favourite memories from the 80s was watching a certain Peter Weller playing one of the most iconic cyborg character of our time. I had the chance to buy the McFarlane figure many years ago but was then put-off by the lack of 'screen-accurate' look on that figure (I just hate it how the headsculpt proportion on that one looked a bit 'off'!). The articulations were pretty abysmal too if I could recall properly. Anyway, no use of crying over spilt milk. I just knew in my heart that someday another toy company's gonna produce a better Robocop figure. Well, I can tell ya that my prayers have been answered by NECA!

The Walking Dead: Season 2 premier!

Aptly called 'What Lies Ahead', the premier episode of The Walking Dead: Season 2 TV series kicked off last Sunday (in the 'States) with a record-shattering audience count.....7.3 million viewers! Come to think of it, I think it was only premiered in the US last Sunday, which means that the 7.3 million viewers were solely from North America alone! Well, thanks to high-speed broadband, we Malaysians got the chance to watch the new episode too, mere hours after our US buddies did. Honestly, I wasn't too keen to wait till Oct 23 to watch the episode over here on Malaysia's cable TV station, specifically because of the strict censorship policy imposed by the local censorship authority. What good would a zombie flick be without all the gory, squishy, blood splattering, brain-busting & gut spillin' action?

I love how the second season is beginning to shape up into the story-line akin to that of the comic. Absolutely no spoilers here.....you just gotta watch it for yourselves! Can't wait for episode 2 next Sunday!

Recent feeble haul @ mid-Oct...

Haul! Matty goodness: Battle-Armor He-Man, Leech & Slime-blower Winston!
steve rogers & savage opress (armored)
Haul! SW TLC Collection: Stass Allie & Ak-Rev

Finally got myself Battle-Armor He-Man (after months of resisting!). Decided to get Leech too, considering that he'd probably NEVER get re-issued again due to his various issues & barrage of criticisms. Slime-blower Winston seemed like a must for me since Vigo the Carpathian's figure is coming out in Dec '11.

Next, I got myself the Marvel Universe Steve Rogers (yup, it's Cap America sans his costume and shield!) and the 'armoured' version of Savage Opress from the SW Clone Wars series. These two figures are ridiculously hard to find over here in Malaysia since dreaded 'scal-pors' literally cleaned out these figures from retails shelves and jacked them prices up on eVilbay. Lucky for me, a specialty toy store brought these in and I was able to buy these two figures individually without having to buy the whole wave/set in which they came in.

In addition to the above goodness, me wife got me the Star Wars TLC Stass Allie and Ak-Rev figures. Those two for only USD 5 (or RM15 for us Malaysians)! TRU was clearing out some old stocks! Had always wanted to get these two before but their discounts weren't tempting enough till recently.

Now, if I could only drag my lazy butt to do a review of the backlog of plastic acquisitions I have in my collection....*sigh*

Hot Toys' Christopher Reeve Supes out in HK last week!

HT Superman already out in HK this week!

Yup, that's right. It's plastered over at their facebook page. Although I'm yet to find any online reviews of the figure. Has it really been released over there in HK I wonder. Whatever it is, brace yerselves for the arrival of the figure anytime soon. I'm pretty excited that the headsculpt now looks more gnarly than the proto pictures we saw many months ago.

The Avengers (2012) Official Teaser Trailer!

Am lost for words. This is gonna be so awesome come July 2012!

So, I'm guessing we're still waiting for the response from DC.....are there any updates on their proposed JLA live-action movie?

Preview: NECA's 6" Rocky Balboa & Apollo Creed

Coming from NECA in Jan '12. Apollo and Rocky look awesome! Now if only we can be assured that NECA's gonna produce Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago next, then I'm all sold!

Quick look: Thor 3.75" Movie figures!

Thor 3.75-inch collage

Those who've read my last posting would surely know that I hit the jackpot several days ago when I stumbled across a specialty toy store somewhere in town (I'm in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by the way) that literally tried to 'dispose' these 3.75" movie Thor figures in one of its shelves. I had no intention to get these figures when the Thor movie came out several months ago, but the temptation of getting them (including those 'rare' ones) at half of their original retail price was too hard to resist really.

My wait is over....it's finally here! Blu-ray galore!

Star Wars: Complete Saga Blu-ray

After weeks of waiting, my Star Wars: The Complete Saga blu-ray boxset came through the mail a couple of days ago. It arrived after almost 3 weeks since the worldwide release date, but hey, considering I'm over here at the other side of the world, it's relatively fast for amazon's standard.

RIP Steve Jobs....

Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

We lost a genius today. A true visionary that gave us the great Sillicon Valley and all those uber cool gadgetry under his Apple/Mac brand.

Most importantly, to those who truly appreciate the beauty of 3D art, he gave us Pixar, which was responsible for all those wonderful 3D animation flicks.

From all of us here at The Rebel Page....rest in peace, Steve.

By Odin's beard....it's "Thor's-Day"!

El purchaso end Sept '11

Went ape-s*** the other day (nope, unfortunately it WASN'T on Thursday.....now that would be very ironic ain't it?!) and got me'self a whole bunch of Thor figures, both 3.75" and 6" incarnations as well as NECA's Robocop.

Thor 3.75" movie figures

Initially, I steered clear of those 3.75" movie Thor figures because I felt that they were overpriced (same case as every other 3.75" figures on retail shelves here in Malaysia) but I said to myself that I'd only get 'em if Hasbro decides to mark them down some day. A very 'big' if...but inevitably it was bound to happen one way or another. These 3.75" Thor figures have clogged retail shelves save for those very few rare ones like Destroyer and King Loki. I got these from a specialty toy stores via their discount shelf the other day at half price! No-brainer. Even got myself the super-rare Destroyer, King Loki and King Laufey! Waiting for Sif, Fandrall and Heimdall to arrive soon to complete the collection.

6" Movie Thor and Comic series Loki

To be honest I only wanted movie Thor for my movie-Avengers line-up. But I was instantly hooked with the Comic series Loki figure when I saw how gnarly his face-sculpt looked like. That's just pure evil, man! A bit disappointing when Hasbro didn't give accessories for Mr Laufeyson to arm himself with. Not a problem though, I 'd probably give him the sword that came with Toybiz's Loki. As far as the movie Avengers figures go, I'm all hyped up for the rest of the gang especially Hawkeye and the Hulk. Come on Hasbro!!!

NECA Robocop

Hmm, what can I say? I have ALWAYS wanted a Robocop figure for my collection. The Hot Toys version was way out of the line (a tad pricey at that too), the McFarlane version released sometime back lacked articulations and FIGMA's version was a tad short at only 5". So when I first saw the review on this figure through my blogger buddy Marc's flickr page, I knew I just had to have him! I love the Robocop movie from the moment I first saw it and I still do till today. Definitely one of the most iconic pop-culture character to have ever graced our screens.

Movie Avengers figures: 6" Capt America & Nick Fury!

Nick Fury: Movie Series

The Avengers movie's coming up next year. And so the action-figures follow! Hasbro's been kind enough to release both 6" Movie Captain America and Nick Fury figures first to whet our geeky-appetite. Ok, for the record that Iron Man figure pictured above with both 'movie' Capt & Nick Fury. is like so '2008'....but he'll have to do for the time being while we wait for Hasbro to give us Mark VII or whatever the armour's gonna be called in the upcoming movie. Nevertheless, I'm happy that we're given the chance to kick-start our 6" Movie Avengers collection with these two.

Smurfs collectible figurines from McDonald's...

The Smurfs

McDonald's gave us these cool Smurf collectible figurines in conjunction with the  live-action "The Smurfs" movie. You know, the one that stars Neil Patrick Harris aka Doogie Howser. I haven't seen the movie yet but I was mighty tempted to get the Jakks Pacific Smurfs figurines. They were pretty costly so when I heard that McDonald's Malaysia was finally bringing in their Smurfs collectible figurines, I was relieved! These 10 figurines were supposed to be sold according to their weekly schedules but it wasn't to be...

Great Scott! Self-lacing sneakers anybody?

The BTTF trilogies rock! They had that massive impact on me when I was a kid, just as important as the classic Star Wars holy trilogy too. These new kicks aka NIKE MAG are going to be auctioned off on eBay and they go for over a thousand bucks each. I think the proceeds are gonna go to charity or somethin' (or is it something to do with Michael J. Fox's Parkinson research effort?)....whatever it is, it's for a good & noble cause. So for those who have extra moolah to burn, get these because there would only be so much made...1500 units. If Mattel decides to give us that hoverboard, then we're all set for the future!!

Now, can we please get a new 'Future movie? Doc Brown looks like he never aged!

Avengers.......assemble!!!!! Well, not till May 4, 2012 that is!

The-Avengers-Movie-Roster

Here are the series of pictures currently floating around the net. Yup, Marvel Studios have officially released these awesome teaser pictures of the upcoming "The Avengers" movie. I totally dig the two group posters! I was an Ultimate universe fan way before these movie adaptations were made so let me be clear that I absolutely have no problemo whatsoever with an African-American Nick Fury. In fact, Sam Jackson is one of my favourite actors of all time!

It's been some time since I've posted a group picture of my recent 'geek-loot'. For the past 5 months or so (last 'loot' pic was way back in March '11 me thinks?) Hot Toys DX09 - Michael Keaton Batman

Nuts. There goes my plan to have more savings in 2012. These two will arrive anytime in Q1, 2012. After the excellent Christopher Reeve Supes, these two will further inflict further damage to classic fans' pockets!

Dwayne Johnson as "Roadblock" in G.I. Joe 2!!!!

Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock in GI Joe 2

Yup, that's right. "The Rock" has been cast as Roadblock in the upcoming sequel to the '08 Joe live-action film. Rumours on the net has it that the movie was originally entitled GI Joe 2: Cobra Strikes but had its title changed to GI Joe: Retaliation. Can't wait for the movie. I totally dig the 1st movie no matter what the critics lambasted/criticized! The movie is slated for a June 2012 release.

Now could we (pretty) please get teaser pictures of the rest of the 'new' addition into the 'Joe line-up? *cough*....Lady Jaye...*cough*....Flint...*cough*....

2011 SDCC Exclusive: Marvel Legends Thor!

SDCC 2011: Marvel Legends Thor

The recently-ended 2011 SDCC can only mean one thing to us collectors on the other side of the globe - them exclusive toys are gonna make their way to us finally! I was most impressed with (and truly wish I had the moolah to get) the Hasbro Star Wars "Death Star" VOTC 14-figure pack. But unfortunately I only had the dough to get only one item from the influx of SDCC '11 items that had suddenly flooded the local market here in KL, Malaysia. The funny thing is, I've read somewhere that there's a shortage of these exclusives in the States. Ain't that funny? I mean, they came from the States, which means that any shortages would definitely imply that Hasbro had something to do with the whole conspiracy to drastically increase the demand of US-based collectors for these items.....*phew* you get the drift? Anyway, conspiring theories are hard, let's just stick to what we know best....and that is 'geek-blogging'! Right, as you may already have guessed from the picture above, I got myself the Marvel Legends 'Heroic Age' Thor!

2 reasons why we'd be counting days till June 20, 2012....

Dark Knight Rises_Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

Dark Knight Rises_Tom Hardy as Bane

Yup, that's right. Everybody's highly anticipating the final Christopher Nolan Dark Knight movie. Top picture, it's our first look at Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle. It's still unknown whether she's already in her Catwoman gear or otherwise. Most importantly, what the heck is Selina Kyle/Catwoman doing on the Batpod?! On the other hand, the second picture shows Tom Hardy as Bane aka the man who broke the Bat! Scary facial mask! He ain't the Bane we know from the comic series but he certainly looks the part of a deranged escaped prisoner pumped with drugs!

Hey, whatever happened to the proposed plan to let Joseph Gordon-Levitt play The Joker?! Is he not part of the 3rd movie?

First look at the NEW Superman!
