Marvel Select Movie Avengers' Hulk...

Marvel Select Movie Avengers' Hulk

Uhmm yea....probably I'm a wee bit late in reviewing this figure. It has been sitting pretty in my display cabinet since I got him all those months ago but I never really had the time to do any photo shoot or a proper review on him. Which is quite a shame really.....this is by far one of the nicest Hulk figure ever produced in recent times (if you can get pass that 'scale' issue that is!). Marvel Select figures are known for their 7" scale as compared to your normal 'Legends or DCUC 6" standard scale. In fact, these MS figures are better off if compared to the likes of MOTU Classics or any DC Direct figures. But hey, this is THE HULK. He is huge after all and he might just make the cut.

Let's check him out...

Marvel Universe: She-Hulk....

Marvel Universe: She-Hulk

Ok, we've 'survived' the apocalypse AND X-Mas. That's that......LOL.

Up next is my take on the excellent Marvel Universe She-Hulk figure from Wave 19. Now, as you've probably heard me saying before, this one's been short-packed together with the Scarlet Witch figure which I've reviewed earlier. Seriously, after all this while, you'd thought that Hasbro would have learnt their lesson and produce more of the 'popular' characters and not let fans and collectors run around like fools to check whether their local TRUs and local retail stores in their neck of the woods have received the latest wave of Marvel Universe. Worst of it all, most of us fell prey to them darn scalpers. For the record I haven't even seen Cable, Professor X or Jubilee on the pegs anywhere yet in Malaysia. So what gives Hasbro? The same goes for Star Wars figures....bl**dy shortpacked! Frustrating time to be a collector in Malaysia...and I believe many more collectors around the globe feel the same too. There is simply no logic in it....when a toy company wants to make profit, they simply produce MORE of what the fans/collector demand.....and not the other way around. Ain't it? Don't need to be a freakin' economist to figure that one out!

Anyway, back to She-Hulk.......

EMCE Toys' Zombies vs Zombie Hunters....'army-men' style!

EMCE Toys: Zombies vs Zombie Hunters

First found this earlier in the month and I've had many debates with my inner geek-self whether to grab it for myself or not since then. Sure, it was a wee bit expensive than your normal green army-men. One thing about classic green army men is that they're practically cheap and can be found almost anywhere but the sheer excitement of lining these tiny soldiers to re-create your most favourite battles of yesteryears is priceless! I had hours and hours of fun playing with my army men (at one point it was cowboys and Indians too!) with my childhood buddies and those will forever be etched in my memory bank as one of the most 'fun'-est toy ever created for boys growing up adoring war heroes and such. My buddy Adrian can vouch this for me I'm sure.

Now, combine THAT with this one popular pop-culture element....and you'd get.....ZOMBIE ARMY MEN! Being an ardent zombie fan (my 4-year old son is too ya know.....that little geek!) I was soon haunted by the fact that there's a good chance that I'd never see this again, you know, being an exclusive item and all. The fact that only ONE store carries them thus far here in Malaysia gave me enough horrors to finally cave in and buy the figure set. One can only imagine my heartbeat while I made my way back to that 'bookstore' where I first saw the figure set a couple of weeks ago.....*Oh God, let it still be there!*......LOL.

Some stuff I found (and snagged) recently.....

el purchaso 8 Dec '12

There were some hits and misses earlier this month when I failed to score certain pop-culture items that I had been eyeing for some time (due to some unforeseen circumstances).  Managed to score some stuff (pictured above) to console myself. LOL. My wife even got me those cool 1:24 DeLoreans from the BTTF Trilogy at 20% off.....that's some deal! Have a pile of backlog stuff to snap pictures and talk about, sitting pretty and compounding in the Rebel Vault already. All THAT plus a whole smorgasbord of stuff still waiting to be picked up from my toy pushers. I do hope I have the time to review (at least some of) these some time soon.
On the other hand, I found this variant of the Spidey Movie figure (left) while having my 'on-the-go-lunch' yesterday. This one is supposedly very hard to find (or has it already been released?) in the States. The Amazing Spidey figures are exclusively distributed by Walmart in the States, making it relatively harder to find than most mass retail releases. I found out that the 2nd Wave (which is just a re-release of figures from the 1st Wave PLUS this unmasked Spidey) was actually released here in Malaysia way back in October '12.....funny, coz I didn't come across any on the pegs up till yesterday. Whatever it is, I'm glad I held off from buying the 'regular/masked' version (right). Now I'm contemplating whether to get that 6" Lizard figure to go with this one too.

The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale 2012.....

The Big Bad Wolf Sale 2012

Over the weekend my wife and I decided to visit a clearance sale held by the #1 'discount' book store in Malaysia. Actually I'm not even sure if I can call them that. In a nutshell, The Big Bad Wolf is the company that sells books/magazines/comics/print medias at major discounts! I kid ya' not. Sometimes I scream when I found certain books that I've actually paid full price for being sold at Book Xcess (that's what their physical store is called) for >70-80% off the retail price and the best (sick) part of it all is that they are STILL being sold at most major bookstores at full-price. Lesson learnt.....best to check Book Xcess before buying any TPBs or hardcovers from now on...LOL! Anyway, let's get on with my thoughts on the event......

Mace Windu for Ep VII? HE**-to-the-YEAH!!!

mace windu

Ok, latest news on the 'net suggests that Sam L. Jackson himself mentioned that he wouldn't mind coming back for Episode VII (planned for a 2015 release by Disney/Lucasfilm) as Jedi Master Mace Windu whom he played in the Prequel Trilogy. Sam even said that he wouldn't mind coming back as a 'one-legged Jedi ghost' if that's what it takes to be back inside the Star Wars universe. Now that's dedication.

Of course such news will also be met with some disgruntled comments by certain quarters of the fan base (very rigid minded fans is what I'd like to call them), some with a very childish remark like below:

"Why don't we bring the whole list of deceased characters from the Prequels back into Episode VII while we're at it too??!"

Sheesh. I personally look forward for ol' Mace to come back. If there's any good from the Prequels, it would definitely include Mace Windu....and I can't wait to see what the writers have planned for Episode VII, especially if it involves this Jedi who created Vaapad, the Seventh form of lightsaber combat!

Come on Disney/Lucasfilm....I double dare ya' to bring this bad mofo back onto the big screen!

Petition to White House to build a Death Star?! For real?!

Death Star 1 & 11

This is truly a geek worthy news indeed.

Excerpts from FOXnews read:

"Citing a need for increased “space superiority” and job creation, over 13,000 people have signed an official petition on WhiteHouse.gov demanding that the United States government secure funds and resources and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.
By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense,” reads the petition. Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016."

As of Monday (10th of December) morning, the real-life petition had received 13,302 signatures. The petition needs another 11,700 signatures for it to reach the 25,000 threshold necessary for the government to take it seriously. This means that the American people have until Dec 14 to turn this dream into reality.

So what are you guys waiting for? Here's a chance to see one of the most iconic pop-culture icon in the history of geek fandom being made for real!
Read here for the original article.
I've even ranted about the actual 'costs' necessary to build the giant space station before in my earlier posting in 2009.

Transformers: Protectobot Hot Spot....

Protectobot Hot Spot

Without any shadow of doubt most Transformers fans I know or heard about would definitely hail the Generation 1 series as THE most definitive TF run among them all. Who can forget sitting in front of the TV anticipating what the Autobots or the 'Cons are gonna do during each episode, week in and week out? Who can ever forget the sadness and anger felt among all of us young fans back then when Optimus was abruptly taken away from us during the '86 movie? And who can forget the disgruntled fans when they were forced to watch the subsequent seasons without ol' Prime leading the Autobots? Yea sure, Ultra Magnus was originally given the mandate to lead the good guys after Prime's demise (we all can remember what happened to him on the planet Junk now can we?) and later Hot Rod became Rodimus Prime bla bla bla....
Anyway, for me (and to some fans I'm sure) this was THE robot that closely resembled Optimus Prime, maybe perhaps due to his similar mouth-piece and his head design. So in a way, he was the 'unofficial' Autobot leader although technically he was just a leader to the Protectobots (more on that later). I was overjoyed when I first heard Hasbro was releasing him under the Generations banner!

Cool geeky stuff found!

Zombies vs Zombie Hunters

Was just strolling through a well-known book store the other day with my son when I came across the toy section (way to go, a book store has a TOY section. Not complaining!). In fact, my 4-year old first noticed both of these items before I did. He absolutely loves both Star Wars and The Walking Dead so naturally he was ecstatic when he saw both the Zombies vs Zombie Hunters 'army men-style' figurine pack and the Death Star plushie below.
From my 'net search, that zombie pack is produced by a company called EMCE Toys, which also produces cool MEGO-like zombie-themed action figures. Not a bad idea eh? Zombie-themed action figures sounds good. Now if they can just produce 3.75" or 6" scale zombie figs....that would be just awesome.
Mighty, mighty tempted to pick up that zombie 'army' figurines......

Marvel Universe: Scarlet Witch.....

Marvel Universe: Scarlet Witch

Here is one of my most anticipated Marvel Universe release this year. In Malaysia, we collectors have to really fight off them scalpers to get these figures into our collection especially when these figures are shortpacked in a particular wave. The way I see it, it's either you beat the scalpers to it OR be prepared to pay exorbitant prices on eVilbay thereafter. To make things worse, Scarlet Witch here was packed together with She-Hulk, another heavy hitter from the same wave! Whatever it is, I gotta thank my lovely wife for snagging this figure for me when she found the new wave at TRU a couple of weeks ago.....there's no freakin' way I was willing to pay them sky-high prices on eVilbay for it!

The Walking Dead.....the long wait till Feb '13!!!

TWD S03 Ep 8

No....no....nooooooo!!! The wait till February 10, 2013 for Episode 9 of Season 3 is just too much for some of us! Come on FOX.....can't you pull the date back up a bit earlier.....pretty please!!!!!
Episode 8 was just too intense, which is a good thing. The introduction of Tyrese, Merle's finally reunited with Daryl, Michonne got to exact her revenge on the Guv', Carl's showing his leadership qualities and all, Andrea's torn between her 'love' for the Guv' and her (somewhat) loyalty to her former comrades (look at her face when she first glanced upon Daryl!).....man, what a way  to build up the hype till next Feb!

Found! Angry Birds Star Wars 'Early Package'.....

Angry Birds Star Wars

Seems that I've raved about a lot of Angry Bird-related stuff lately. Stumbled across this during my TRU run the other day. This is a homage to the original Early Package produced by Kenner in the 70s, so suckers....errr, I mean FANS of the VOTC packaging will catch on and buy the entire SW-Angry Birds line.

My son had been wanting this since he first laid eyes on it too.....he's really into the Angry Birds: Star Wars game on the iPad! We'll see.....

Angry Birds....Hot Wheels?!

Angry Bird Hot Wheels

They really thought of everything now didn't they? I wonder what other mediums or franchise would them Angry Birds creep into next. This particular Hot Wheels vehicle is supposedly 'hard-to-find' in the open market. I've only found them (yes.....THEM. There is also a 'red' Angry Bird out there) once thus far at retail, so I guess they are also victims of guys who have nothing better to do than swiping all of the rare item off retails shelves and marking them prices up like crazy on eVilbay......Hot Wheels scalpers!!!!

The Walking Dead Season 3: Episode 7 mini recap.....

The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 7: Group tries to rescue Glenn and Maggie
Man, Episode 7 was basically a balls-out series of events that would eventually lead to the much awaited mid-season finale (aka Episode 8) next week. I find myself quite intrigued by the fact that Episode 7 was a departure from the 'character-building' premise that was evident in the episodes leading up to the current episode. In short, the producers are really doing a great job in fueling our anticipation for Episode 8 aka the mid-season finale. So let's get on with it.....
I love this part of my posting when I get to say.....SPOILERS ALERT! LOL.

Hey...how about a (dead) Ewok action figure?

dead ewok

Ok, I don't even know who's the person originally responsible for this. But this image was taken off another geek website. Can't really say it's appropriate but you gotta admit it's kinda cool (but creepy)....especially if you have the intentions of sarcastically lauding Hasbro's pro-activeness in producing every single character off the Star Wars universe. Oh yeah, there're also mock VOTC action figure pictures of the charred skeletal remains of Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru. Google them up and you'll see what I mean......cool but definitely creepy.
What the heck is The Rebel doing glorifying 'dead' action figures? Pretty much summing up my mood at work today. 'Nuff said.

The Walking Dead Season 3: Episode 5 mini recap...

Season 3

Nah, this isn't one of those lenghty and in-depth reviews. It's just a reflection of Season 3 of the most watched cable series in the history of television. We're already up to Episode 5 of Season 3 thus far and I can tell ya' that it's the BEST season among them all hands down! Apart from the introduction of excellent characters such as the sadistic Governor and the katana-wielding Michonne (both fan favourites from the comic book pages), the storyline has somehow evolved into a much darker and emotional mood, as expected.

*SPOILER ALERT* The best bit? It's gotta be how Rick had gone bonkers upon learning the death of his wife Lori from Episode 4. He decided that its probably best to vent out his frustrations by picking up an axe and slaughter every single 'walkers' that come between him and Lori's remains (or what's left of 'em anyway).  Meanwhile we were also treated to the sadistic ways of the Governor and how Andrea was made to realise that she'd probably made the wrong decision to ditch Michonne in favour of the Guv'.....and Woodbury isn't the 'safe refuge' that everyone thought it was. Really good stuff this week. Can't freakin' wait for Episode 6!

rick & shane Series 2

On a the geeky front, I managed to get a buddy of mine from the States to snag me these 2 figures from McFarlane's Series 2 of the TV series characters. Now I'm waiting for them to be shipped to me here in Malaysia. I totally missed out on the Series 1 figures (darn I missed out on Daryl!!!!!) so I wasn't gonna let these pass by too. I haven't bought any 'walkers' though (too creepy to be displayed on my shelves.....can't risk my other action figures to be infected I guess....LOL!). Here's hoping that McFarlane will do a Daryl 2.0. My buddy Marc of ungrownups.com has THIS to say about the abysmal articulations and limbs proportions of that Daryl 1.0.

Only few more days left till we get to Episode 6......I'm gonna kill time by reading Kirkman's new book 'The Road to Woodbury' to pass time.

Over and out!

Angry Bird: Star Wars....

angry bird SW 01

My son is a devout Angry Bird player on the iPad. He practically tried every single version there is...well, those downloaded by my wife anyway. Me? Well, let's just put it this way....I've only attempted to play the game whenever my son is kind enough to let me get some play time on the 'Pad....LOL.

angry bird SW 02

When the news first broke that the Angry Bird's game developer company, Rovio, was to release a 'Star Wars' themed Angry Birds game, I was obviously skeptical. I was dead wrong though. My wife downloaded the new game and boy did we (yup, all of us switched on our geek-modes) enjoy the game! I mean, come on......it's 'Star Wars' we're talking about! Any reference to Uncle George's universe is worth a look I reckon. Take a look at the screenshots above and tell me that you ain't impressed.

World War Z: Official Trailer.....zombie goodness!

Two words......can't-wait!

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

Everyone's favourite smuggler back for Episode VII? Hurrah!

Ok, maybe I'm a bit hopeful here. But come on...this is really stirring up every Star Wars' fanboys wet dream right now! It's buzzing all over the 'Net right now that Harrison Ford is 'open to the Han Solo role' for Episode VII in 2015. He's been said to have been 'upbeat about the idea' but he wants to see the script and who the director will be.
Really a surprise this is since Ford hasn't really been proud of his work (or the character) he played in the original SW trilogy...to him it was just 'another character who happens to be a popular pop-culture icon'. In fact, he has only been to ONE official Star Wars (or unofficial for that matter!) function/reunion/gathering even since ROTJ first hit the screen 29 years back!
My fear is that Mr Ford would reinforce a clause in his contract to (yet again) kill Solo off like he originally begged Uncle George during ROTJ in '83.
Whatever it is......great news indeed! Can't wait to see that scruffy-lookin' nerf herder helming the Falcon once again! Bring on 2015!!!!

Early Nov '12 goodness.....by my lucky charm!

el purchaso early Nov '12

Ahh, it's that time of the week/month (depending on how lucky I am) when I get to sit back, relax and enjoy the geeky bounties aka presents from my equally geeky (yet absolutely lovely!) wife. About a dozen (or so/or more) of Hot Wheels (all are hers obviously & all to be kept MISB unfortunately...), Steve Sansweet's '1000 Star Wars Collectibles' book which was only RM19.90 (or approx USD 6.5....a no-brainer purchase!), latest issue of 'The Score' magazine with a special coverage on the latest season of The Walking Dead, the latest 'Dead book by Robert Kirkman entitled 'The Road to Woodbury' (thus fuelling my anticipation and anxiousness for the rest of Season 3!), Obi Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter from ROTS (in VOTC packaging mind you PLUS she fully redeemed this with cash vouchers..woo-hoo!!), Ghost Rider & Thor from Marvel Legends Series 1 (darn, still can't find Hope Summers and Commander Rogers anywhere!!!), 3.75" Movie Avengers Nick Fury, Marvel Universe' Scarlet Witch & She-Hulk.

And there's more.....

Let's take a closer look at some of the stuff.....and the 'surprise' finds she managed to hunt down for me! Man is she my lucky charm or what?  =p

More Star Wars ludicrous pricing by TRU!

TRU Exclusive Endor Speederbike

Oh come one TRU!!! Just because you're the so-called 'Exclusive Distributor' for the region/country, doesn't mean you can mark these up as you wish! The price tag of RM169.90 or USD 57 bucks is just insulting to us Malaysian collectors. It's just 22 bucks in the States (and some retail outlets even offering a second one at HALF price!). How's the pricing for the rest of South East Asia I wonder?
I think us Malaysia collectors still haven't gotten over the over-the-moon pricing of the G.I. Joe Retaliation figures some months ago.....and now TRU Malaysia is testing our patience yet again with this. I can only think of one solution to put an end to this madness.....boycott them and pressure TRU to decrease the price in the near future. Even so, my visits to some TRU revealed that stocks are moving (means that there are suckers who're actually willing to meet the extortion price set by TRU Malaysia for a pair of 3.75" Scout Trooper and the Endor Speederbike).....so we collectors may not win this battle after all.....

Star Wars belongs to Disney &.....Episode VII?! Geek-worthy news indeed!!!!

SW Disney
I guess by now the whole world knows that Disney had acquired the whole Star Wars franchise rights aka Lucasfilm from dear ol' Uncle George for USD4 billion. I was a bit skeptical in the beginning to tell ya the truth. I mean, come on...these are the guys who brought us family cartoons and kiddie-themed shows so what good can the team bring to our beloved universe? My wife had a very interesting rebuttal to my defensive rant when she pointed out that maybe Disney will give the whole franchise a 'reboot' or a kick in the @$$...."Remember what happened by the time we reached Episode III? It was all downhill after The Phantom Menace!"......so point taken.

Weekend Star Wars toy sighting.....

Ok, this picture was taken a couple of weeks back at one of the TRU near my place. Truthfully, these have been popping up almost at all TRU ever since. After seeing the price tag (notwithstanding that this was an SDCC exclusive), it made me feel blessed and grateful that I got my AT-AT last year at a heavily discounted price.

This one my friends (it's an SDCC exclusive)....is blissfully priced at RM799 or approximately USD260! That's just absolutely NUTS! Seems that TRU is marking up any toy that they 'exclusively' distribute at their own will. Remember the GI: Joe Retaliation 3.75" action figures some time back? Those were USD20 each......unbelievable.

I love the retro packaging and 'vintage instructions' etc.....but at THAT price....I'd say thank you very much.....I'll wait for the mark down offer instead!

Spidey vs The Sandman!

Spiderman vs Sandman

Was just stowing away my Sandman base (off the Black Spidey Hot Toys figure) as it was taking too much space in my glass cabinet when I decided to pop out my Marvel Universe Spiderman figure and pose them together....the result was kinda cool.

the walking dead Season 3 - ETA Oct '12

The best TV series ever in television history is coming back for Round 3. Just three words.......'can't....bloody....wait!'.

Prof X is (finally) dead....

x men 02

The whole lot of you would most probably have heard this over the net several days ago. Marvel Comics announced that in the upcoming issue of Avengers vs. X-Men comic book, Charles Xavier's gonna bite the bullet......apparently killed by non  other than the one-eyed leader of the X-Men team himself.

My money is on Marvel bringing him 'back to life' in some twisted and contorted way in the near and foreseeable future (or until the X-Men comic books suffer some decline in sales).....hahah. 'Nuff said.

The Amazing Spider-Man & The Lizard!

The Amazing Spider-Man & The Lizard

Here's some shot of the 3.75" Ultra Poseable Spider-Man and the Reptile Blast Lizard figures from Hasbro from the Amazing Spider-Man movie series figure line. While I'm not exactly sure how well did the movie go for those hardcore or casual Spidey fans out there, I can tell you that it was a shade darker than the Tobey Trilogy....that's fer sure! The action figure line gave us a bunch of nonsensical 'action-feature' figures which serves no purpose to the adult collectors, but these two were the most 'decent' ones you'd find among them all.

Toy sightings: LEGO Jabba's Palace.....look at the price!!!

LEGO Jabba's Palace.....look at the price!!!

Came ascross this at TRU yesterday. It's like RM800++ here in Malaysia....or about USD270++ for you folks payin' with Uncle Sam's bucks. Pure madness I tell ya', I'd love to get my hands on this one but at that price....I don't think so!

For goodness sake.....it's only USD 100+ in the States!!!!!!!! Thank you LEGO Malaysia...*sheesshhh*....

Star Wars goodness....I found Malgus in retail!!!!!!

further Star Wars goodness in Aug '12

Decided to follow my wife's instincts the other day and visited a nearby retail store for a stroll with the family. What luck, as we passed the toy section the retail assistant had just re-stocked the Star Wars aisle and I can't believe me eyes when I found Darth Malgus, Starkiller and Shae Vizla just sitting pretty waiting for me! Man, how hard  it is to find Malgus.....let alone through retail! This figure is like USD30 or something on amazon before shipping so that's telling you how rare he is.....but to tell you the truth I'm not really into these Expanded Universe characters too much. I just love anything packaged under the VOTC banner....LOL! Man they look sweet. On the other had, I found that Grand Moff Tarkin at 10% off at another retail store so go figure!

The un-boxing of Black Suit Spider-Man!

Spider-Man Black Suit (1/6 Hot Toys)

Here's a post I started way back during the final days of July '12 but never got around to actually finishing it. Was to lazy and totally forgotten about it until I saw the 'draft' icon next to this particular entry. Anyway, let's get on with this....

I wanted this figure the very moment Hot Toys announced they were releasing it all those months ago. A Black Suit Spidey that comes with that very moody Peter Parker/Tobey McGuire headsculpt.....pretty much what geeks want from an otherwise abysmal 3rd Raimi Spidey movie. I did want the red/blue Spidey 1/6 figure from Hot Toys but that one didn't come with a removable head thus rendering any dreams of popping on a Tobey headsculpt useless.

I'm back...with a little bit of plastic crack in hand...

My oh my.....it's been a good one and a half months since I last posted anything here. Been amassing some stuff during those 'sabbatical' period (and I still haven't picked up several more 'pre-order' items from my 'pushers' too). A lot has happened in the past 60 days or so....some were very welcoming indeed....and some were....shall we say, 'unpleasant' to say the least.....LOL. 'Neways, I hope to be back writing stuff for The Rebel Page. I've been out for so long I even forgot the exact url to type in the address bar (hey, didn't I save the address in my favourite list?!).

Star Wars' Wampa (2003).....

Wampa (2003) with Luke Skywalker (VOTC)

I scored this particular piece of Star Wars 'icon' during my visit to the garage sale held in early June. Wasn't expecting to get anything but I was immediately enticed to get this 'set' for that 'ice-base'. I already had many diorama scenes playing in my head when I saw that ol' Wampa here came with the excellent snow environment. Since I've also recently bought myself the VOTC 'Hoth' Luke, I decided to have some photograpy fun with the two.

On the Death Star

Was just having fun with my Star Wars action figures the other day. A bit of DIY props i.e. shiny floor and cardboard background.....and voila......my feeble attempt to create Death Star diorama scenes!

What happens when action-figures are overpriced?

TRU Malaysia got trolled!

I've rambled about how the G.I. Joe Retaliation figures were overpriced here in Malaysia about a month ago. Those were approx USD20 each.....insane. Well, these MIB:3 figures are at a close second. At RM50 each or approx USD17 each., they're just not worth it...at all! Heck, they're certainly not 'Star Wars VOTC' standard nor anywhere near the G.I. Joe figures by a mile. So why the heck are we collectors being slapped with such ridiculous price tags for sub-par figures?

Seems that they are people who dig these MIB:3 figures but weren't willing to pay the 'asking price'. So TRU, what do you get? The above picture sums it all up nicely......poor ol' Agent J.

*Sigh*....sometimes you wonder....are the retailers (*cough* TRU *cough*) the one to be blamed for causing such social ills? Four-incher figures priced more than 10 bucks in the States sounds outright expensive (back me up here please dear collectors from the States!)....so is TRU/other retailers/importers here telling us that it's okay to pay up to 20 bucks for the same figure here at the other side of the globe? Nonsense.

Felicitaciones Espana.....heads up Azzurri, you've tried!

Italy - Euro '12 loss

Let's deviate a bit from the usual geek rants on toys, comics and such. Today was such a downer for us Azzurri fans. Yup, just in case you're not in the know, Euro '12 (football tourney for European teams.....or soccer to the Americans) just ended this morning (or evening, depending on where you are at that particular point in time) and Spain had emerged as victors by defeating Italy 4-0. Sigh, that's FOUR - nil folks. An earth shattering result which left the likes of Bonucci and the 'hard-as-rock' Balotelli in tears after the final whistle.

Somebody went and asked me soon after whether I'd still continue supporting the Azzurri (literally translates as 'The Blues' aka nick name for the Italian team). What a silly question! I've been a fan since World Cup '90 and unlike some other 'fans' from some other 'teams' I stand behind my team no matter what. Just because they lost the final match, doesn't mean they were the worst team in the tournament ain't it? That honor goes to the 'heavyweights' who didn't even make it past the Group stage.....LOL.

Enough rant for today....I think I better go and drown my sorrow by opening a couple of my MISB action figures now!

Garage sale @ Kavin's 2nd-3rd June '12...

Earlier in the month, I had the chance to visit a garage sale organised by one of the 'toy-pusher' from my early collecting days. He's no longer active i.e. no longer having an actual brick & mortar store nor selling any collectibles nowadays. It was a 2-day sale and Kavin (yup, that's his name) announced on his FB page that he'd be selling off part of his personal collection as well as heaps of stock aka leftover collectibles from his 'active' days. I went there together with my wife, son and a collector buddy (aka "The Rebel Page" crew), early in the morning to avoid the expected massive crowd.

The Anatomy of Nerds & Geeks
