More poison from Hot Toys to tempt you!

Hot Toys - Upcoming Releases May '13

Just look at what Hot Toys had released. A teaser poster of their upcoming releases. I don't care much for the rest but give me The Hulk NOW!!!! Lookin' good. His paint wash and skin tones kinda look much better than the proto figure on display on some exhibition we saw many months ago. Let's hope the final version would be as good too when we get to finally hold him in our hands.

On the other hand, what do you think of the teaser pictures of the Man of Steel offerings? Honestly, like many other sane collectors out there, I'd want to wait until Hot Toys shows us the head sculpt. I want my Russel Crowe to actually look like Russel Crowe....the same goes for Henry Cavill! Knowing Hot Toys, they'd probably outdo themselves like usual, so I wouldn't worry too much. Still, even though it's just a mere formality right now before HT gives us a sneek peak into the head sculpts, I can't wait to get these two into my pre-order list. Even if I decide against it right now, I'm pretty sure I'd be 'poisoned' over and surrender to my inner evils once the movie comes out next month!

NECA Predator Series 8: Dutch vs The Predator!!!

Dutch vs Predator

When I first read about the Series 8 Predator figures some months back, I was rather interested to see the final products on the shelves before jumping into buying them. We all had our share of experiencing actual figures being rather different than the proto-type/preview pictures before. You might also say that I was quite a skeptic when it comes to believing that we are getting a 'killer' head sculpt of Arnold Schwarzenegger in 6" scale. This I gotta see! So when I stumbled across the figures from Series 8 some weeks ago at a nearby collector toy store, I was stunned to see both Jungle Patrol Dutch (JP Dutch) and Jungle Extraction Dutch (JE Dutch) with the exact proto/preview head sculpt NECA had shown to us many months prior to their release. Right on NECA! Both were excellent in their own right but I had to chose between those two....so I took JPD home with me together with the Jungle Hunter Predator (the creature from the 1st movie).

Happy 30th Birthday ROTJ!

Happy 30th Birthday ROTJ!

Ahh memories. I can still remember rushing to the cinema with my late father to catch Return of the Jedi in '83 as an eager 5-year old who had just recently been exposed to the wonderful world of Uncle George's universe. I can vividly remember clutching my Darth Vader and Obi Wan figures everywhere I went that year. For most Star Wars fans, The Empire Strikes Back was the definitive Original Trilogy SW flick among the three. But for me, it has always been a toss between A New Hope and ROTJ. Screw all of you Ewok-haters! LOL.

Happy Birthday ROTJ...you've withstood the test of time! Here's to another 30!!!

Now excuse me while I pop my ROTJ blu-ray disc into my player.....

Toy Sightings: TMNT action figures on Malaysian soil!!!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles_new & classics' sightings @ TRU

Hah! At long last! We Malaysian collectors finally get to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' action figures and such on our shores! Thankfully, both the 'new' and the 'classic' action figures were brought into our TRU. I was afraid that we were not gonna get the 'classic' figures amidst some initial rumours that those were already scarce to begin with. Those rumours were obviously dumbfounded as the classics popped up at almost every major TRU in town. I know most of you collectors in the 'States have already seen these in the wild since late last year but as usual, we collectors at this far end of the earth only get to see stuff on our retail shelves pretty much later than everybody else....*bummer*. Anyway, better later than never I guess. The picture above was taken at the TRU near my place some days ago. As you can see, the 'classic' figures only constitute about one-fourth out of the total display

You see, my wife, my son and I immediately rushed to the store as soon as I finished work that day as we've been getting 'live feed' from a collector friend of ours who gave us a nudge that them 'Turtle toys have just been stocked at selected TRUs around town. To be honest, I had only set my eyes on the 'Classic' Turtles.

MOTU Classics' Ram Man...

Ram Man
I have heaps of MOTU Classics figures in my collection since it's been my core collection for the past few years. I started my collection with the now-highly-sought-after-figure Teela way back in 2008 courtesy of a dear blogger friend of mine who bought and posted the figure all the way from New York after discovering that yours truly was struggling with the infamous 'white screen of death' (hardcore MOTUC fans will know just what I'm babbling about here!). I've only wanted the core members of both the good and evil factions i.e. the classic line-up but ended up with a whole lot more while at the same time successfully steering clear of those 'non-essentials' like the Mattel 'Toyguru'/Four Horsemen-created figures and most of the 'concept' figures which is currently rampant within the MOTU classics line-up. Recently I've also realised that I haven't been talking about any of my MOTUC figures since I last reviewed a MOTUC item way back in January 2012....WOW! So I think it's only fitting that I start the ball rolling (again) by looking into one of the core members of the good guys aka every MOTUC fanboys' favourite bulky hero.....Ram Man!

FOUND! Hot Wheels 1:64 Knight Rider K.A.R.R.!

Hot Wheels Retro K.A.R.R.

Wow. I never thought that it was so darn hard to find the 1:64 Hot Wheels Retro Knight Rider K.A.R.R. out in the open. I already have two (2) of K.I.T.T., one is to be opened and displayed with K.A.R.R. but I guess I won't be opening K.A.R.R. here anytime soon as I would want one mint-on-card. I'll just have to keep on looking then. These were snapped up the moment they hit retail pegs. So being able to literally see any of the HW Retro vehicles at retail is truly a miracle indeed! I have to thank my better half for getting this one for me. This lone K.A.R.R. was located amidst a sea of 'unwanted' Retro vehicles i.e. the American Grafitti and Smokey & The Bandit cars.

I'm just gonna rant a bit about the original Knight Rider series from the 80s. The one with The 'Hoff'. I don't pay much attention to the newer versions (I think there were 2 different series in the 2000s and Hasselhoff did make an appearance in one of those). Just a little geeky trivia on K.A.R.R. The acronym stands for 'Knight Automated Roving Robot'. In his debut episode, he was voiced by Peter Cullen himself.....ya know, Optimus Prime? Ya can't get much geekier than that. K.A.R.R. died/was destroyed in that '82 episode but was revived and brought back to life in that classic 'K.I.T.T. vs K.A.R.R.' episode in '84 due to strong fan demands. I've always loved that classic Knight Rider series and I figured that once Hot Wheels produced a K.I.T.T. then a K.A.R.R. wouldn't be too far behind.

Say Mattel....could we get Magnum P.I.'s Ferrari next? Or even the Airwolf chopper?

Sideshow's Sixth Scale Snowtrooper...

Sideshow Sixth Scale Snowtrooper

Wow. Ain't the title of this post a mouthful? Hahaha. Anyhoo, honestly I can't even remember when was the last time I got myself a 1/6 Sideshow figure. All of my recent one-sixth haul were exclusively from Hot Toys. But when it comes to Star Wars inevitably I have to go back to Sideshow (even though Hot Toys acquired the license as of late....have you guys seen their Bespin Luke? Excellent!). Not withstanding the fact that Hot Toys can now also produce Star Wars figures, this is one Sideshow offering that you can't afford to give a miss as I doubt Hot Toys is gonna do a similar character anytime soon. As mentioned in my earlier post sometime last month, my dear wife snagged me not one but TWO 1/6 Star Wars figures....this excellent Snowtrooper and the Padawan Obi Wan (which I'm gonna look into sometime later this month.....I hope!). So let's look into the Snowtrooper first shall we?

Star Wars VOTC VC94: Imperial Navy Commander....

Imperial Navy Commander

I knew that I'd be compelled to talk about this figure sooner or later. This one was from Wave 12 in 2012, you know, THE wave where the ever-elusive Darth Malgus was also packed in. This Imperial Navy Commander figure is supposedly very hard to find over in the States. Shortpacked or for some other reason, I think it's frickin' ridiculous that such a popular figure (hey, everybody likes them Imperial figures right?) is shortpacked and collectors had to launch a nation-wide hunt to find these for their collection. I hate goin' round and round across all of the TRUs and retail stores around town but once I found this I knew why he was such a popular figure. A short-packed action figure with an excellent headsculpt and a great deal of attention to details....a definite disaster for those wanting to find him in the wild.

Some haul for the past couple o' weeks....

haul_late April '13

I indulged myself in some plastic-retail therapy and these were my loot for the past two weeks. What a way to relief one's stress! It's great being a geek. Never thought I'll see that Marvel Universe Professor X in the wild. He's just so darn hard to find on retail pegs (funny us Malaysians only get to see this MU Wave now instead of last year!). When I finally found him at an obscure TRU two weeks back, he's sitting pretty next to a Blastaar variant.....jackpot! Love those 'flaming' arms of his. I caved in and got myself the Marvel Select Thanos. What surprises me is that he's a 2012 re-issue, something I didn't know Marvel Select did. It's great for those wanting to get the earlier-but-now-extinct MS figures. Now please re-issue that Mephisto....I really need that throne!

Haul of the week_early May '13

I searched high and low for the Hot Wheels Retro A-Team GMC van and I finally struck gold when I stumbled across a store assistant who was just re-stocking the Hot Wheels aisle the other day during lunch time. I grabbed two for myself (gotta open one and display it on my work desk!) and left the others (there were 4 left last I've seen them) for other fellow collectors. That Madame Hydra figure was bought on the cheap. Some collector got both Madames and wasn't too keen on Hydra and opted for Masque (he was so eager to dispose Mdm Hydra on the cheap!)....his loss is my gain! To cap a wonderful week, I came across the highly anticipated NECA Predator series 8 figures. There were 3 in the series, but I only opted to get the Jungle Patrol Dutch and the Jungle Hunter Predator (though I'm mighty tempted to also get the other version of Dutch too). Bear in mind that we'll get ANOTHER 2 versions of Dutch in series 9! Real top notch milking by NECA!

Hot Toys Avengers movie Captain America....

Hot Toys Movie Avengers Captain America

When it comes to supplying 1/6 Hot Toys action figures, my current 'toy-pusher' dude is a tad bit late in getting his stock into his store. I know the fact that some of you out there have been receiving the Captain here as early as late-January '13 or some during February '13. I'm getting really annoyed as most collectors here in Malaysia (or Singapore for that matter) already have Thor and Black Widow in hand....God knows when I'll be getting mine....LOL. Well, change is always good if it means that I'll get my HT at par with the rest of the collecting community out there! Time to switch 'allegiance' soon. Aaaaanyway, enough with the rants and let's hear what yours truly think about Hot Toys' 1/6 Avengers movie Captain America figure here, shall we?

May the Fourth Be With You....Always!
