Happy New Year 2011!!!

Whoaa...what a busy period it has been for The Rebel and the Rebel Page crew! The last posting was done was back in early November '10! Nevertheless, we hope to be back on our geeky best real soon. Till then have a Happy New Year and may all your new year resolutions be fulfilled before it's time to greet 2012! Heheh....oh yeah, I think it's not too late to wish everyone a very belated X-mas too!

Yet another BRILLIANT comic-book adaptation...Zombies galore!!!

Unless you've been living in an underground cave where cable TV reception is but a mere myth, you must have heard about the latest series by FOX that premiered on Halloween '10 called The Walking Dead ("The 'Dead"). Being a hardcore George A. Romero fan, I was ecstatic to find that my insatiable geeky appetite for zombie flicks would now be fulfilled every week for as long as AMC (that's the network responsible for bringing the comic book to life!) prolongs the series beyond the 1st season. True, we Malaysians only get to watch it over on our local tube 5 days after our American counterparts (and MOST parts of the world I reckon) do on their telly. But there's always this thing called the 'internet' and with the help of high-speed broadbands, we too get to see the 'uncensored' version (deemed too gory in these parts of the world....booo!) albeit a day later. Still, not too bad!

A 1981 DeLorean DMC-12! Great Scott....did I just buy a 'Hot Wheels'!!!

Maybe I had this coming, or maybe I didn't. But after re-watching the Back To The Future Trilogy (again) TWICE over the weekend, suddenly the 'usually-non-appealing' Hot Wheels section became so appealing because I remembered they came out with the 'normal' version of the famed DeLorean car used for time travelling throughout the films! For the record, I don't collect Hot Wheels.....more like NEVER. Well, perhaps I did have a few when I was small but I wasn't really into them miniature cars when I was a kid (too busy bashing up action-figures I guess....heheh). And then, while walking through a departmental store this afternoon, my wife found this.......

This week's haul: Clone Wars action-figures!

This week, both the_ridz and I managed to sniff out the latest wave of Star Wars action figures from the Clone Wars series . Well, had it not been for my son (who insisted that we made a pitstop at a TRU this afternoon) we wouldn't have had the chance to see these on retail shelves at all.....them scalpers would've snapped these off the shelves upon first sight!

Ghostbusters 3 is confirmed!

Thanks to Wicket Toys & Collectible for the heads up. I now know that Ghostbusters 3 has indeed been confirmed! Holy Gozer....how cool is that?! After years of speculating and playing the guessing game!

Retro lookin' Imperial TIE Fighter packaging!

VOTC '10: Classic TIE Fighter_front packaging

At one glance, one may mistakenly thought that the image above was taken off a picture album belonging to one lucky Star Wars fan way back in '83. This however is a brand new release from Hasbro under the "Kenner" tag to rekindle the nostalgic feelings amongst us Star Wars fans, especially those who were lucky enough to have had the original toy when it was first released all those years ago when ESB was being played in the cinemas.

Well, as some of you might already know, Hasbro's currently kinda pushing their 'Vintage packaging' Star Wars (VOTC) strategy into the vehicle department as well. So far we've got the Snowspeeder being released in the retro box together with the TIE Fighter. As for me, I'm itching to see how cool it will be when the AT-AT is finally released in its retro/vintage packaging!

VOTC '10: Classic TIE Fighter_packaging panels

This piece of retro goodness belongs to The Rebel Page's resident reviewer, the_ridz......so rest assured, a review on the superb packaging (AND the actual toy itself) will follow suit! Stay tuned.....

Thank you Sideshow Collectibles!

A letter from Sideshow Collectibles

Sorry if some of you are expecting a toy-related post. This ain't it.....well, indirectly that is. I've just received a letter from Sideshow Collectibles, all the way from Cali! Well, what could it be?

Sideshow Collectibles' commission for The Rebel Page!

Ahhh, the long awaited payment notification from Sideshow for my part in promoting their products through their affiliate programme. Somebody once told me that all those fancy link-banners serve no purpose on my blog....how wrong that is! It ain't much at 38 bucks, but technically not bad for a virtually 'no-effort' marketing scheme, and this is only a partial payment... =p....keep those payments coming Sideshow!

Eaglemoss: DC Superhero lead figurines!

Yeah, yeah...I know it's probably old news to most of you. As I had mentioned before, initially these lead figurines had seen the light of day in early '09....back when we Malaysian collectors had to fork out almost USD15-16 bucks to get ONE of these....and mind you, it was only available at specialty toy stores, which made it rather 'exclusive' and sorta' hard to find.....sorta. Well, now these are available almost everywhere in town. Heck, I've even seen it being sold at a newspaper kiosk last week. The best part of it all...they're now just USD8 bucks each. But the issue remained the same with these lead figurines/statues.....you gotta find the best lookin' one or risk being stuck with one which has poorly applied paint!

Pursuit of COBRA Wave 2 Jungle-Viper Review

Whoah! It's been quite a while and The Rebel is STILL in his festive/holiday mood....LOL! It's up to the_ridz to spice things up a little bit by breathing life into an otherwise mundane period of non-blogging activity here at The Rebel Page! Join him as he delicately reviews the excellent Jungle Viper action figure from the GI Joe: Pursuit of Cobra line....

The TRUTH about Ewoks!

Family of Ewoks

My buddy Dash had this posted over at his facebook page and had me rolling in laughter! It's just too good not to be reproduced again here at The Rebel Page. Damn....we had it wrong all along about them Ewoks!
"Everyone seems to hate the ewoks because they were thought to be these cute, teddy bear-ish like creatures. That was never the case. If you watch closely at the end of ROTJ, you can clearly see an ewok using a row of imperial helmets as kettle drums. Nobody ever questions what happened to the dead and or wounded imperial infantry on Endor.

The answer is simple- THE EWOKS ATE THEM!!!.

After all, turning them over a spit was their sole reason for capturing Han, Luke, and Chewbacca. If not for the intervention of C3-PO (and Luke's use of the force), the three wayward rebels would have been stewing in the greasy guts of a tribe of "teddy bears" by the end of act 2.

Leia's capture? Clearly she was going to be turned into some sort of sex slave or concubine of Chief Chirpa.

Mull these little tidbits over, Ewok Haters, the next time you call Endor's chief residents a bunch of spear chuckin' Care Bears!"

Haul & Acquisitions: Early Sept '10 el purchaso!!!

haul & acquisition banner

Welcome to the inaugural edition of "Haul & Acquisitions"! Well if you ask me, I've been purchasing steadily for the past 10-12 years or so, of course this ain't my maiden purchase...hahah. So why now and what's the deal and fuss all about then? First of all, notice that now there will be a banner everytime a latest entry on 'H&A' is posted. Secondly, we wish to commemorate the official 'induction' of our resident reviewer, the _ridz into The Rebel Page's roster of personnel. Some would instantly recognize that the word 'we/our' is now used instead of the usual 'I/my'. Why you might ask? That is because The Rebel Page will no longer be a single individual's effort and will now be a collaborative effort between a number of people, prominently spearheaded by The Rebel himself and the ever-geeky collector extraordinaire, the_ridz!

Anyway, let us now take a look at this week's spoils of war!

YES!!!! Thank you Hot Toys!!!!

First of all, let me give a shout out to Asrul and Shaun for the heads up. Finally them execs at Hot Toys decided to listen to us fans by giving us a teaser poster for the highly anticipated Christopher Reeve Superman! How cool is that? Wow, God knows how long I've been waiting for this. For the record I missed the chance to snag the 2-in-1 Brandon Routh ver. a couple of years back but deep in my heart I was always hopeful that one day HT's gonna do the 'definitive' Supes...and they didn't disappoint! Phew, after so many false alarms (the latest one being Bruce Lee!), it's a relief to see Mr Reeve coming to us this winter (err...that's sometime towards end of the year for us non-four seasoned countries). I can't stress enough how the original Supes movies greatly influence me when I was a kid (heck, am watching Superman II now while typing this entry...LOL!). Just imagine, when HT gets the license for the 2nd movie, we'd get General Zod and gang too.....*DROOL*

In today's frail economy, one must certainly be forced to choose to purchase only the essentials to stay within the constraints of one's budget. I can tell ya', for the rest of 2010, it's just gonna be food for the family AND definitely THIS figure!

We're finally getting him (albeit a 1/6th permutation that is!) on our shelves soon. This is by far the most important 1/6th collectible of a Supes' fan collection aka the pinnacle of one's devotion to the classic movie.....man, the wait's killin' me!

Eaglemoss' Superhero Collection #1: Batman!!!

Thanks to blogger buddy cowboy75, I now know that the 'now-affordable' Eaglemoss Superhero Collection (DC characters) comic & figure pack is now available at most retailers and bookstores around KL. If any of you could recall properly, this is NOT something new as these had seen the light of day sometime early last year as most of the specialty toy stores in town had them on sale albeit at RM60 each! Well, for those not in the know, guess what? Issue #1 (Batman) is now just RM19.90 (approx USD6)! Issue #2 and beyond would cost us RM29.90, which is STILL a far cry than the original price of RM60 slapped on them last year.

Return of The Jedi's Original Opening Scene On Blu-ray!

WOW!!!!!! What can I say? Didn't even know this scene existed let alone survive the gruelling editing way back in '83. Through a series of pictures posted on www.yakface.com, we geeks get to see the original opening scene intended for ROTJ where Luke is building his lightsaber somewhere in a cave on Tatooine with R2-D2 and C-3PO looking on. This was aired during the Celebration V event in Florida yesterday in conjunction with the announcement to release ALL 6 Star Wars film onto the blu-ray in Fall 2011! I'd say it's time for you to finally buy that blu-ray player/PS:3 peeps!

Who ya' gonna call? Why, the Ghostbusters of course!

Well, this might be old news to some but recently I was able to complete the line-up of my movie Ghostbusters figures! Peter Venkman was the last member of the quartet to be produced by matty and he was finally released in June '10. Months before, fans were clamouring for Mattel to reassure them that Pete will eventually see the light of day. Rumours had it that Mattel might cancel off the line prematurely due to poor response towards the earlier figures. Ridiculous if you ask me....all of them sold out within a few days so what's not 'feasible' about the line? Anyway, here are some shots of the guys together (at long last!) together with an 'old acquaintance' from the first movie!

19 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Star Wars...

A MUST-HAVE Star Wars toy!

Nope, I'm not getting my AT-AT yet. That's gonna have to wait for another couple of weeks or so. Not too concerned either as there is currently an abundance of stock in the market right now. One TRU was even having 12 units on display last I checked a couple of days ago. Can you guess what I have in hand right now? ****drumroll!!!****.............

(Unexpected) Marvel Universe haul!

L-R: Iron Patriot, Iron Spider Man & Winter Soldier

Now here's something really unexpected! Amidst all the Star Wars frenzy, my buddy the_ridz stumbled upon the new Marvel Universe wave at one of the retail stores in KL. This time, Hasbro got it right by packing more of the essential figures into one case (haha...no more running around to get that ONE-PER-CASE figure...hooray!) so technically he managed to get the above figures in 'twos' in one go....one of each for the both of us! The other figures released in the same case were Wrecker, Skrull Soldier and a very 'fugly' Mary Jane Watson...easy pass if ya' ask me! So far I've never seen any of these figures being sold at any other retail stores as of yet. This can only mean that....we've beaten them scalpers to these hard-to-get figures!!!! Hell yea!!!!

A quick look on Hasbro's new Snowpeeder!

It has been ages of anticipation and decades of waiting and we've finally got a Snowpeeder that is truely in scale with the 3.75" figures. Of course I won't even try to compare these to the new Big AT-AT....everybody knows that it is technically impossible to do a 3.75" scale AT-AT! Anyway, the Snowspeeder looks excellent compared to its past versions. Those were touted as being too big for the 3.75" figures so I guess this new one is exactly the size the fans wanted it to be.....

More Star Wars haul: Clone Wars 'baddies'.....

My undying craze towards Uncle Lucas' universe continues as I snagged three (3) 'baddies' from the Clone Wars TV-series. Yup, that's right, start your collection with them baddies/villains first and you can never go wrong! Thanks to my wife's points voucher, I managed to snag these at an average of only RM12 (approx USD3.4) each!

What can I say, I'm a late bloomer when it comes to collecting. I was quite a fan of the Clone Wars cartoon TV-series from the beginning but never got into collecting the action figures until my mind was recently 'corrupted' by the dark side by a collector friend of mine. You may know him from a recent 'guest reviewer' spot from my last blog entry....LOL!

Anyway, the Cad Bane figure was actually from last years' Clone Wars wave but nevertheless he was too good to pass on at only RM5.90 (approx USD1.80). I could've picked up the newer 2010 carded version but that would've cost me much more. Hence, my decision to get the '09 carded version was a no-brainer! Aurra Sing and Pre-Vizsla were both short-packed by Hasbro (yet another brilliant strategy by them Hasblow execs to further complicate collectors' lives!) so it was quite a hunt in getting them. I'm sure those who have considerable knowledge on the Star Wars expanded universe will be quite familiar with Aurra Sing but I doubt that many would instantly recognize Pre Vizsla, unless you have watched the second season of the Clone Wars cartoon TV series (in particular - Episode 12! *geek alert!*).

Reviews and pictures to follow soon....

A Tale of Toyfairs and recent haul.....

Well, the San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC) 2010 is finally over. Many cool toys were previewed and we as the unlucky ones could catch a glimpse by hopping on to several well-known sites such as http://www.cooltoyreview.com/ or http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/ just to name a few. I was particularly fond of the new releases by Hasbro and Mattel, namely their upcoming Star Wars and MOTU Classics figures. Guess we'll see those soon as most were slated for either 'end-of-year' or a 2011 release.

On the other hand, Malaysian collectors were pretty excited over the weekend (24-25 July'10) as we came to brace ourselves for the inaugural toy fair aptly named as....well, The Malaysia International Toys Fair 2010 or MITF '10 for shorts. I can tell you, there were already visitors expressing their dissatisfaction over the event but quickly quirked that it is somewhat acceptable given that it was the first time such an event was held over here in Malaysia. I think we shouldn't be too quick to jump the gun....I mean, there were highs and lows but overall it was an 'okay' event to say the least.

Star Wars spoof in New York's subway car!

This one's has been circulating through youtube for the past week or so. I don't really know who's behind the video or the real motive behind this short film. It could be for some advertisement or was it just some student film project? Whatever it is, this video shows how cool most subway commuters in New York can be. Most of them smiled and had a laugh when a bunch of actors re-enacted the kidnapping of Princess Leia (a la Tantive IV) during the subway rush hour. The coolest thing was when the lot of them began taking out their camera phones and such upon the arrival of Darth Vader!

Oh yeah, the video also portrayed how feared the Empire is throughout the universe (even in New York!). NOBODY dared to do anything when the Stormtroopers came in to snatch Leia! LOL!

BOTH 1/6 Jango and Boba are up for grabs....BUT...*sigh*....

Yup, just when everybody was crossing their fingers for Sideshow to produce their 1/6 renditions of the Fetts....Medicom beat them to it! Gosh...every collector in town knows about their scale issues when compared to other 1/6 figures. They certainly don't match up to the rest of Sideshow's 1/6 Star Wars figures. Come on, we were already disappointed that both Artoo and Threepio were produced by Medicom. Now we must either be content into getting Medicom's versions of Boba & Jango....OR be patient enough till Sideshow eventually does theirs.

NEW Hot Toys 1/6 figures from the International Tokyo Toy Show 2010!!!

All pictures are credited to Cybergundam.....lucky dude who was actually there to witness these prototypes himself! Let his pictures do all the talking....prepare to be flabbergasted dear fellow geeks!!!

The Rebel's review: HobiMax magazine.....Malaysia's 'premier' toy mag!

***This is a review of a local Malaysian toy magazine. Suffice to say that you won't be able to find this on newstands outside of Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia. Nevertheless, I feel that it is somehow my duty as a budding geek to provide an independent view on the quality of the publication, especially for Malaysian collectors who have yet to pick this one up. Do join me for a brief yet critical evaluation of the magazine.....

June's haul from Mattycollector...'bout time!

Alas, I received my stuffs from June's matty-collector sale a couple of days ago. A dear friend bought it for me during the monthly online sale last month but we never really had a chance to meet up. The MOTUC line gave us 3 figures in June..... She-ra, Keldor and the re-issued Faker. I chose to get only She-ra this time around (I'm still on the fence about Faker and Keldor though...might decide on them soon). The Ghostbusters 6" line gave us the final and dare I say it, the most anticipated member of the GB boys....Peter Venkman....in all of his 'slimed glory'.

First official picture of Thor, Odin & Loki!!!

Here it is....the first official shot of Anthony Hopkins in costume as Odin, flanked by Chris Hemsworth as Thor (hammer in hand) and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. This marks the first time we've seen all three characters together and the first glimpse we've gotten of Loki ever!

Hmmph, I dunno. They look more like characters from a LOTR franchise rather than mighty beings from Asgard. Let's hope the story line proves to be worth waiting for so that we can forget those abysmal costume choices, LOL! Oh yeah, did I mention that the movie's gonna be shown in 3D?

Read it as it first appeared here.

Hotwheel's Wonder Woman Invisible Jet!

For the record, this'll be the 2nd Wonder Woman-related entry from me within a short space of time. She seems to be getting a fair amount of attention lately. First it was the hullaballoo about her image change....now fans can get their hands on the upcoming Invisible Jet from Hotwheels at the upcoming SDCC event.

From what I've heard, this started out as a joke when Mattel asked fans on what vehicle would they like to see next from the DC universe. The response was so positive that they proceeded to produce the item for real! It was hilarious to hear some fans' comments regarding the Invisible Jet. These two represents the best I've come across lately on Mattel's facebook page:
"That's not really an invisible jet, it's just a tray with strategically placed linings to make it look like there's ACTUALLY a toy jet inside!"

"What's the point of an invisible jet when we can still see HER inside it?"
Hahah....make mine Marv....errr.....DC then!

Edward Norton ousted from The Hulk franchise......*bummer*!

I first heard about this rather annoying piece of news from my pal Stephen's entry on his blog a couple of days ago. What is it about Marvel Studios not having the ability to hold on to key actors to their movies? I was rather left speechless when they announced that Terence Howard would be replaced by Don Cheadle (nothing against Don, I loved the man's role in the 'Ocean' trilogy!) but come on.....Ed did an excellent job in saving the mean green giant's image after that abysmal 1st movie in '03! Seems that Marvel Studios commented something on Norton's 'attitude' but Norton's agent is hinting that it's just a cover-up by Marvel to deviate from their reluctance to discuss on the 'financials'.

It'll take some time for us fans to digest and to accept that Edward Norton won't be reprising his role as the Incredible Hulk in 2012's "The Avengers". There goes our hope of seeing him together with RDJ, Sam Jackson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and the lot.....*sigh*

Get the full news here.

Will Swiftwind be pink or white?

For a start, I know of some so-called 'manly' collectors who proclaimed that they don't give any rass a** about the release of She-Ra's faithful unicorn steed Swiftwind. Matty has finally announced that ol' Swifty will be released in late 2011 and now they're giving those who would be present at the upcoming Mattypalooza (SDCC '10) to vote for the colour! Yup, it's gonna be a toss between 'Classic Pink' or 'Royal White'. If ya' ask me....choose WHITE fer' God's sake!!!!!

Another thing is, I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm quite a fan of the Princess of Power (POP) cartoon series, simply because it's a direct spin-off from the He-man & The Masters of the Universe cartoon series.

Besides, my wife, who happens to be one of the most devout POP fan on the planet would kill me if I don't get ol' Swifty. To quote her..."What's the point of already having MOTUC's Adora and She-Ra then eh?". Nuff said.

ENTERBAY's upcoming releases...MUST SEE TO BELIEVE!

Coming out real soon from ENTERBAY (circa end of Q3' 10)....are the 1/6 scale Ip Man action figure from the movie "Ip Man 2" and the 1/6 scale Bruce Lee statue. These were taken off ENTERBAY's facebook page so prepare to feast thy eyes! You'd swear that these are images of actual people....*shucks*....

Wonder Woman's new look....

By now most fanboys will probably be aware that Wonder Woman has been given a major makeover by them DC bosses. I hear ya'....most are crying foul over the change in Diana's image. I mean, why fix something that isn't broken?

I personally feel that by giving her a pair of pants implies that DC is trying to impose sort of a Western symbol of formalized male authority. Hence, it won't be too extreme to declare this huge makeover an implied passing of gender equity. It's gonna take some time for us to adjust to this new image. I'm never gonna swap my classic red-blue Wonder Woman in my JLA action-figure lineup with this new one....THAT'S for sure!

Food...glorious food! *ehm*....inaugural 'foodie-rific' entry in my blog!

As far as my memory serves me, I've never had any food-related entry in my blog before. I have tonnes of food picture. Maybe it's just my instinctive habit of snapping food pictures right before anyone starts to ravage through the serving plates, but none of those ever made it to the public....in fact I can't even recall where the jpg files now are. Anyway, in view of the scrumptious lunch my wife, son and I had yesterday with an old friend at a nearby Lebanese restaurant, I said to myself that I'd make the effort to get these posted.....none of these excellent food portrait be wasted again! =p

And the role of Spiderman/Peter Parker goes to.....

Well, it's a done deal then. After months of speculating and false alarms, Sony Pictures finally made up their mind and awarded the role of Spidey/Pete Parker to Brit actor by the name of Andrew Garfield. Excerpt from a press release on Deadline's webpage:

"After a comprehensive worldwide casting search, Andrew Garfield has been chosen to portray Peter Parker when Spider-Man swings back onto the screen in 3D on July 3, 2012. They will begin production in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios."
If ya ask me, I'm not too familiar with his work either. I just know that he starred in the film "The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus" alongside Christopher Plummer, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Jude Law and the late Heath Ledger. Upon first glance, I do feel that Logan Lerman (the actor who was heavily rumoured to play Spidey months ago) was a better choice for a young Peter Parker. I don't know....maybe we ought to give this Garfield dude a chance.

What do you think?

Prologue LOTR action-figures.....

Was pretty bored the other day....so I took several prologue LOTR figures out from storage and snapped some shots. Funnily enough, this was the only one that turned out fine (the rest was blurry and was so out-of-focus). Gosh, I miss those Toybiz LOTR days....they're sorely missed together with the Marvel Legends line!

The Avengers #1: The Heroic Age!

Been pretty busy watching the '10 FIFA World Cup lately. I'm still reeling from the aftershock of witnessing Portugal blasting 7 goals past the hapless North Korean goalkeeper yesterday...*poor chap*. Anyway, not much geeky activities taking place nowadays for me...I seem to have been pre-occupied with other stuffs lately. But amidst all that I managed to receive the long awaited #1 of The Avengers: The Heroic Age! Oh yeah!

Oh, it's best to tell ya that you'd probably be better off understanding the whole Civil War-Secret Invasion-Dark Avengers-Siege storyline before you go into this one. For the record, I still haven't read Siege myself, but I have a pretty good idea of how the story went (most probably will pick up the TPB next month too! heheh...) so inevitably this new monthly series is a must for any Avengers fan who wishes to know what comes next after the fall of Norman Osborne.

What can I say....classic Avengers stuff promises to unfold itself. Although it is still early, I can foresee that this new series will kick a** and satisfy even the fans who shunned away from the New Avengers series. Wicked art from John Romita Jr. too. Highly recommended....so get your hands on #1 before it completely disappears from the stands soon!

Make mine Marvel!

Voltron: Defender of the Universe in 2011!!!!

Who lived through the '80s and didn't have any clue on who/what Voltron was? I doubt it.....now the iconic 'Lion-Force' Voltron is getting revived through a new cartoon series slated for a 2011 release.

Marvel Universe: Iron Man vs Punisher 2-pack Target Exclusive

Whoah! This I want!!! I haven't got a 3.75" Punisher from the Marvel Universe line yet. IMHO the one from Series one has a 'melon-head'......his proportions were attrocious! The next version (the Tim Bradstreet inspired figure) from the ensuing wave was technically next to impossible to find in retail back then. My prayers have been answered...and the 'modern-armour' Iron Man looks mighty sweet as well.....nice paintjob. The downside of it is, it's a Target exclusive. Target doesn't exist in Malaysia....which makes it relatively harder for us Malaysian collectors to 'target' (pardon the pun!) this 2-pack set.....not impossible but it's gonna be quite some hunt....*sigh*

Here's a review of the figure pack from fxfranz......(do check out how The Punisher now looks like John Rambo! LOL!),,,,,

Captain America: First Avenger teaser poster?!!! Nahhhh!

This one came from joblo.com's page and has been creating an online frenzy of excitement as we crave for more images from the Cap America movie. Many fans sees this as a fake.....truthfully i do too.The credits are all messed up and reportedly some of the casts' names were omitted. Whatever it is, it's a good fan-made poster nonetheless! See for yourselves...

Crikey! Star Wars Big AT-AT already on sale in Australia!!!

Wow. When everybody was expecting an August release, Hasbro has created quite a buzz down under by releasing the AT-AT in Target stores in early June! Not sure why, but Aussie collectors can now get their hands on the massively anticipated Imperial behemoth before anyone else in the whole world does!

Get this, it's been priced at AUD199....so we Malaysian collectors can more or less gauge that it's gonna cost bout RM500+ if the price range is maintained to mimick the Oz market's.

Now, what was that "it's-gonna-cost-just-USD99" all about? Whatever it is....I better start saving on them TRU coupons!

Read it here as it first appeared on Mousedroid.com.

Star Wars' Toys Carnival @ E Curve, 29 May '10......

As with most Lucas devotees, together with my wife and a couple of our fellow collector buddies, I too was highly anticipating this so-called '30th Anniversary Celebrations of the Empire Strikes Back movie' ("ESB"). Well, don't let the title fool ya'll. There ain't no toys fer sale nor any freebies given during the event. In fact, I believed many had the impression that there was gonna be some sort of discounted Star Wars stuffs on sale. 'Twas too early for the release of the recently-announced vintage carded figures. All we knew was that it had something to do with the 30th anniversary of ESB. I got my money on Hasbro to reveal or rather 'preview' the upcoming Star Wars figures and vehicles.

MOTUC acquisition for May '10....

May '10 was supposed to be THE month where some MOTUC collectors battle online to get the 'supposedly' coveted giant-sized Tytus figure and the 'I-couldn't-care-less-about-it' NA figure, Optikk. For me, I was only looking forward to get the re-issue figure of the month, Mer-man. Being a fan of the Filmation cartoon series first, rather than the 'expanded' MOTU universe, my immediate focus is to get hold of the characters which appeared in the much beloved cartoon series....which means that, to put it in the most subtle words I could think of....I don't give a r** a** about Tytus and Optikk....LOL!

Me' latest 3.75" figures....X-'dudes' are in da house!

I must say, I get more and more impressed with the 'minified' Marvel Legends action figures. The latest series (I think it's Series 2 for 2010) presents us with a list of cool characters from the X-Men universe, save for one which is the AIM Soldier (was quite a pretty ridiculous character if ya ask me, bright yellow and all...even his own bio says so!). The ones most scalpers went for first were Colossus, Juggernaut and the ultra-rare Archangel (which was purposely shortpacked by Has-blow...only ONE per case). Havok, one the other hand, was also limited to only one per case, which technically made it as rare as 'Archie'....but I'm still seeing him all over the various TRUs in town, so I guess he wasn't that important to those gosh-darn scalpers! Nevertheless, a fellow good buddy collector of mine got me Juggernaut and Colossus....so I needed to hunt 'Archie' on my own.

Ah, it's been a while (again!).....

Wow! It's been a good two weeks or so since I last posted my last entry. How time flies. I was pretty tied up with work and stuffs (who isn't anyway, hahhah).....but even those didn't stop me from being a geek and getting an array of pop culture items that I love oh-so-much! So here they are...in no order of preference (nor dates of purchase...coz I can't bloody remember any of those! LOL!).

Star Wars: C-3PO Mimobot 4GB USB pendrive

I got a surprise of my life when my in-laws came back frm HK the other day and brought me home this interesting piece of Star Wars memoribilia. It's a 4GB C3-PO 'Mimobot' USB pendrive (what in the world is a mimobot anyway?). It's already loaded with a string of SW wallpapers and avatars. I haven't checked them out yet but according to my brother in law (who got the same pendrive himself) they're pretty cool!

May the FOURTH be with you....Happy Star Wars Day!!!

Technically it's already the 5th over here in most part of Asia today. But hey, it's still the 4th over at the States and I'm pre-tty sure our fellow geek-fans in Uncle Sam's land are celebrating it somehow. Nope, unfortunately they'd have to go to work.....it's still an unofficial holiday.....*bummer*. IMHO, if millions of people around the world congregate (albeit spiritually) and celebrate something in unison, that's good enough for governments around the world to declare a national holiday....right? LOL!

To further illustrate the celebration as practised by most SW geeks around the globe, an excerpt from wookiepedia:

"Typical festivities consist of inviting fellow Star Wars-obsessed friends to stay over, and then watching the series in succession. Lots of snacks, bring lightsabers and Star Wars-themed toys. Lightsaber fights in the early morning hours optional."

My 3.75" men of IRON!

Well, after some gruelling period of hunting down the figures that I really want from the Iron Man 2 wave of action figures, it's a fitting time to finally group them together and snap some pictures. I don't collect every single figure from the series.....and didn't plan to from the beginning anyway. Just cherry-picked the ones that caught my eyes. I like group figure shots. The different colours and armour designs really show how truly unique each characters are. I'll stop yapping now and let the pictures do the talking. Enjoy.....

More 3.75" Marvel action figures for my display shelf.....

ARGGH! What have I gotten myself into? More of these superb 3.75" action figures have found their way to into my hands. Dare I say it, IMHO I think some of these Iron Man figures are even better than their 6" counterparts we've seen from the first Iron Man movie. Those 6" action figures if anybody could recall, were just endless repaints from the same basic Iron Man mould. But these current IM:2 action figures......every each of them have different armour sculpts and the paint work is quite amazing for such small figures!

Thor's in his NEW suit!!!!!

This is an image taken off Chris Hemsworth playin' the God of Thunder from the upcoming Thor movie. Looks like Marvel Studios decided to go with the new-suit Thor as opposed to the classic costumed version! Does it look a bit 'plasticky'? You tell....

MOTU Classics acquisitions for April! Oh yeah!!!

This month's MOTU Classics figures were among two of the most anticipated figure ever from the line. Evil-Lyn was the main highlight during the online frenzy of April 19th and on the other hand, Hordak was made available once again for those who missed out early last year.

Sneak peek: Avengers #1.....ETA May 19th, 2010!

For those of you who follow the happenings of the comic world, you'd probably by now realised that a new Avengers comic series is due to be released next month on May 19th....well, at least those in the States would be able to pick #1 as soon as their comic stores open for business on the morning of the 19th. We Asians would definitely get it a wee bit later (I'd reckon a good 'ol one week later or so), but hey, better late than never I say!

More el purchaso for April......

"Can't stop till ya get enough!" Those were the immortal words of the irreplaceable pop icon, Michael Jackson. In my case, I found myself haulin' and haulin' for the past weeks. Honestly, I was having a rather tumultuous time lately, juggling work commitments and errr...other work commitments. But fret not, as we geeks do sometime always manage to find solace in the form of 'plastic therapy'.

Feeble el purchaso for mid-April '10....

Well whadya' know? April's almost over and I'm yet to get over my 'lazy-as-heck-to-blog' bug. Sometimes I do wonder whether I'd ever get into my nonsensical ranting mode again....*shucks!*

Aaaaanyway...here're some pop-culture items both my wife and I managed to somehow squeeze through into our monthly 'groceries' list during mid-April....isn't it nice to be geeks!

God of War III

What can I say? My wife has been waiting since forever for part three of Kratos' 'godly mission' (pardon the pun....heheh) to kill Zeus and his merry band of Mount Olympus gods. This game was particularly sold out everywhere during its initial release in Malaysia some weeks ago. It was well worth the wait IMHO, as we managed to snag this one relatively lower than the retail price...courtesy of a discount given by our usual 'game' pusher!

Y: The Last Man Deluxe Edition Book 2

I'm kinda hooked to the series right now, so naturally this 2nd edition of the award winning series ended up in my graphic novel library (and at the point of typing this, the 3rd edition is already well on its way to me too! *geeky grin*). As I have graciously mentioned before, you'd be nuts if you haven't checked out this excellent graphic novel already......

Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentleman Vol 1 & 2

Alan Moore is by far one of the most interesting comic book/graphic novel writer on the planet right now (at par with the irreplaceable Neil Gaiman and Frank Miller). Believe me when I say that I was an idiot having believed that the 'movie' (VERY loosely based on Vol 1) was the exact translation of Alan Moore's work. These graphic novels rock people!!! Hands down....definitely miles better than the movie!!!

Secret Invasion TPB graphic novel

The storyline's been over for several years now. Since the Secret Invasion saga, Marvel universe had gone through the Dark Avengers/Dark Reign period.......followed immediately by the recently ended Siege storyline. I'm prepping myself up for the upcoming Bendis/Romita Jr. brand new Avengers series (#1 to be released sometime in May), hence it's very crucial for me to understand the aftermath of the Civil War storyline to which I have unfortunately missed back then when it was first published.

Discounted stuffs from TRU's sale

I never was a Mighty Muggs collector, but ol' Ben here was on sale for about RM22 (that's bout USD6.5) and my son happens to have a great liking to these cute/mutated lightsaber-wielding characters. I bought the GI Joe: ROC Senior Officer pack (was just about USD7) solely to get Sgt Stone to complete my collection of the on-screen characters. Couldn't care less about 'whats-their-faces' characters that came with him.....LOL! They would make superb canon fodders should I ever make a diorama of these Joes/Cobras trying to kill each other!

DID's 1/6 Capt 'Millers'......

Yeah, you've guessed it....for some obvious 'copyright' issues, DID couldn't use the Captain John H. Miller name outright. Next best thing is to slightly change the name to....well, err..."Millers". I'm an absolute sucker for them WW2 1/6 action figures....and to finally have the ultimate version of Mr Hanks' character from the Saving Ryan's Private....I mean, Saving Private Ryan movie is a dream come true. He's currently out of his box and sitting pretty with the rest of my WW2 vets on me' display shelf. Review to be done on this great figure soon....

Well, that's pretty much it.....see ya real soon!

And the next Spidey will be.....errrr....Logan Lerman??! Who-da-'ell-is-that?

First, us Marvel fans were treated to an almost 'Cap America's ridiculous choice of actor'-like news (when Sony Pictures announced their 'supposedly' final choice for the new 'reboot' Spiderman screen character). When I first heard the name, Logan Lerman, I immediately thought that the dude must've had the physique of that certain 'feral' X-Men character...but I was wrong. Seems that the guy acted in that Percy Jackson: Lightning Thief movie....nope, never watched it before either, so I won't be able to comment much on the choice made by Sony Pictures. I bet Disney had a hand in choosing the actor. IMHO, he looks like someone who's auditioning for a spot in a 'boy-band'....LOL!

"The next Pete Parker? I don't think so...."

Later, Sony Pictures gave their official statement saying that Logan-dude is not only out of the forefront candidates to take over from Tobey McGuire, he's out of the contender race altogether! Read more here

Thank God, Marvel! For the record, I don't any issue at all in retaining Tobey McGuire for the role....even if it means re-booting everything that has been made under Raimi's regime.

My 2 cents...

The Pacific.....2-hour special debut on HBO...!!!

Just finished watching the 2-hour special on The Pacific over on HBO just now. I'm guessing the whole of South east Asia tuned in as well to catch the premier of the highly anticipated mini-series. One thing for sure, Singaporean viewers tuned in at exactly the same time as us Malaysians, thanks to Alex for confirming this. Well, they were actually 2 separate episodes shown back-to-back but hey, nobody's complaining! It was a perfect introduction to the new World War 2 mini-series by the Hanks/Spielberg team (who previously brought us the award-winning Band of Brothers mini-series in the early 2000s). Personally, I have been waiting for another WW2 mini-series worthy of sitting alongside the Band of Brothers series and I think my prayers have been answered! Watching the first 2 episodes alone tells me that there's more to come in the remaining 8 episodes.

The Pacific follows the exploits of the real-life stories of Corporal Eugene "Sledgehammer" Sledge, Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone and Private First Class Robert Leckie, as well as stories from their fellow Marines of the 1st Marine Division as they brave through the gruelling Pacific theater campaign during the early days of World War 2. The series feature well-known battles involving the 1st Marine Division, such as Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa, as well as Basilone's involvement in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

What got me all excited was that the first landing on the Guadalcanal shores took place mere 20 minutes into the first episode, a stark contrast if compared to the Band of Brothers mini-series (if I recall properly, we had to wait until the 3rd episode to finally see them 101st paratroopers make their jump into France on the early morning of D-Day). The other thing is, we were presented with the journey of Eugene Sledge as he fought his personal dilemma and health condition and decided to enlist himself in the Pacific towards the end of episode 2.

Man, can't wait for episode 3 next week! It's been a thrilling ride so far...and I think more will be in store for us WW2 buffs in coming episodes! If you love Band of Brothers, you'll definitely get hooked to this one instantly.

For those who want to read/know more about the 1st Marine Division's story in the Pacific theater, head on to HBO's official webpage for the mini-series.

March sporadic posting #4: Month end acquisitions....

Wow! Only my 4th posting for the month (and whadya know...it's already the last day of March!). Either I was too lazy to post anything or it simply meant I was bogged down with work matters throughout the month. The truth is....a bit of both really. I'm not really into writing long rants these days....I prefer to let my pictures say it all. It's true what people say, a picture speaks a thousand word......or in this case, they speak a thousand 'geeky' word! These are my small catch since mid-March. Yup, was too lazy then to post anything on me' humble blog. So here it is collectively. I do hope I'd catch on the 'blogging bug' again soon.....till then, here are my modest acquisitions for the past 2 weeks:

MOTU Classics' Man-At-Arms & Battle Cat and Star Wars Legacy's Malakili (Rancor keeper) & AT-AT Driver
Man-At-Arms and Battle Cat, what else can I say....these are classics! I guess I'm lucky in the sense that I managed to get a hold on Battle Cat when so many collectors were left frustrated last February. Seriously, those who're familiar with matty's monthly hullabaloo will know what I'm yapping about here. I snagged Malakili since I'm kinda collecting the characters for the Jabba's palace scene in ROTJ. The AT-AT Driver....well, for obvious reasons, an AT-AT is manned by two of these guys....and the upcoming AT-AT (due sometime in August) only comes with one. 'Nuff said!

MOTU Classic's Stratos & Moss Man
Stratos was a re-issued character for March '10 and to me he's a must to complete the core characters in my MOTU Universe. Moss Man on the other hand, sold out within 4 minutes on mattycollector.com last March 15th.....and that itself is a testament to his popularity within the MOTU fanbase! I simply got him because he appeared in the 80's Filmation cartoon series. He's supposed to have a pine-scent type of smell, since his original toy in the 80s did. IMHO (and as of many other collectors worlwide) he smells like Vicks Vaporub! LOL!

Y: The Last Men Deluxe Edition Book 1
Yeah, yeah.....I'm kinda late into reading the excellent Vertigo comic book series. I finally got motivated to buy the first volume (of 5) after one of my collector buddy highly recommended it to me last week. For the record, the series ran from 2002-2008 and had been reproduced in trade paperback form via 10 separate compilation books.  I bought the hardcover version, so technically I only need to buy only 4 more to complete the whole storyline (it originally ran for 60 issues in its initial single monthly-comic form). Heck, there's even a movie planned for the comic series! I think that's gonna be released somewhere in 2011. At the time of writing this, I had finished reading Book 1....and I can tell you this: You'd be crazy not have read this already!

Till next time....
